(NY) Juma

I went down to Bowery Street to check out fellow Toronto designer JUMA for their fall preview. HeyDoYou is very familiar with JUMA and Bella has been to their event in Oct and in last summer in Toronto.  But it was my very first time meeting with Jamil Juma. (^_^).

You can buy Juma and this leather bunny from EVA in NYC

Au Naturel…

Fed up with smelling my hair cook, just to get it straight; I decided it was time for a change. So last month I put my hair on “Hair Detention”. I didn’t think I’d last very long, but I am proud to say that it has been over a month since I used heat on my hair! Yay! *takes a bow*

My scalp is happy and healthy, and my hair? Oh man my hair couldn’t be happier. It’s softer, way shinier, surprisingly more manageable, and there is hardly, if any breakage at all! I initially put my hair on “detention” to give it a break from all the heat styling, but somewhere along the line I decided it was time to go completely natural. I wasn’t born with fine hair, so I was done cooking my hair just to achieve that fine straight look. I did my research on maintaining natural hair, and have found some amazing and helpful tips (thank god for the internet and all the lovely ladies for sharing their natural hair tips and tricks).
Everyday is a good day to put flowers in your hair J
If you had asked me about going natural 5 years ago I would’ve laughed in your face; as far as I was concerned natural hair was stubborn and hard to manage, and I’m almost ashamed to know that this is how I once thought. But with all the products surrounding straightening your hair to make it more “manageable”, it’s kind of hard not to fall into that trap. Lucky for me I have seen the light, and have NO intention of ever looking back; I am committed to continuing this journey one nappy hair at a time J Ladies, we are all beautiful; instead of trying to change things in order to look like what society deems as acceptable, embrace who you are, and cherish the many amazing gifts that you have already been blessed with.

peace and love

Shine Free is the Way to Be!

Mattify! Cosmetics is a company specifically geared towards those with oily skin. They’re signature products are mattifying powders that  provide an oil-absorbent kaolin clay base that soaks up oil all day so you don’t have to reapply pressed powder or blot throughout the day. The powders contain corn starch, silica spheres, rice powders and other natural ingredients that soak up x3 times their weight in oil. These powders also form a barrier for your skin so keep dirt and irritants from seeping into the skin and clogging pores.

I have combination skin but throughout the day my skin can get shiny especially with change in weather. I’ve been using Mattify! Cosmetics powder in Mattify! Ultra and I am in love! I’ve never found a powder that truly keeps my face shine-free all day long without having to blot or reapply powder. I’ve tried different primers that are supposedly supposed to reduce shiny but it’s rare to find one that actually works. Mattify! Ultra and the rest of the powders can be applied under or over make-up or even alone which makes it super versatile. On days I know i’ll be in humidity or stuffy places I like to apply some before and after I put on my foundation to be sure I won’t get shiny.

The Mattify! powders come in original, sensitive, and ultra. There’s one right for everyone whether you just want to use it as a setting powder or you want to battle oily skin. Best of all, your face won’t look chalky so it’s perfect for all skin tones. I recommend this for anyone an everyone for everyday use and especially those nights out where the last thing you want to worry about is powdering your nose.

Personal Tip: try mixing your Mattify! powder with your favorite mineral powder foundation for a lighter coverage but keeping the staying power!

Check out all the products from Mattify! Cosmetics which include eyeshadows, body shimmers, and bronzers. You can also follow them on twitter @mattifycosmetic to find tips and tricks!
