Aaron Faber Gallery’s Annual Fall Exhibition

    cover-banner-1
Aaron Faber Gallery’s Annual Fall Exhibition Will Explore Modern Sculpture as Envisioned Through the Creativity of 12 Celebrated Jewelry Artists

Before Auguste Rodin revolutionized the 19th century art scene with his evocative approach to sculpture, artists were content to draw sculptural inspiration from mythology and history, sculpting forms and figures that fit an idealized image.  Rodin, instead, chose to expose the raw emotion and natural vitality he saw in his subjects.  He employed a sculpting motif that explored spatial form rather than solid; sinuous lines rather than straight; and textured molds rather than smooth. His approach is considered to have been the birth of Modern Sculpture.

For the annual 2016 Fall exhibition, Aaron Faber Gallery challenged twelve celebrated jewelry artists to maneuver Rodin’s path to create jewelry pieces inspired by the principles of modern sculpture. “Jewelry as Sculpture as Jewelry” opened at the Gallery’s 666 Fifth Avenue, Manhattan, New York location on Thursday, October 6, 2016 with commissioned interpretations of modern sculpture’s influence on jewelry art from the following participating artists:

    • Roland Dubuc
    • Arata Fuchi
    • Lucie Heskett-Brem
    • Paolo Marcolongo
    • Tom & Bernd Munsteiner
    • Tod Pardon
    • So Young Park
    • Claudio Pino
    • Baiyang Qiu
    • Kim Rawdin
    • Peter Schmid for Atelier Zobel
    • Aleksandra Vali

“Defining contemporary sculpture in all of its aspects is not the purpose of this exhibition, but it can be said to include movement, light, sound, concept and installation, as well as form and dimension,” said Patricia Faber, exhibition curator and co-owner of Aaron Faber Gallery. “Many studio jewelry artists are modern sculptors of wearable, three-dimensional forms. This group exhibition will highlight that aspect of our field.”

“Jewelry as Sculpture as Jewelry” will exhibit at Aaron Faber Gallery through October 29, 2016. The exhibition will then be taken to Chicago for the 2016 SOFA Chicago art fair.
