The gallery Ceysson & Bénétière announces the first solo exhibition in France by the artist Tomona Matsukawa, from March 16th to June 29th, 2024. The exhibition at the Parisian space will showcase works produced by the Japanese artist during her two-month residency in La Chaulme (Auvergne).

Tomona Matsukawa’s realistic and somewhat dramatic paintings have emerged from conversations with other women of her generation, often strangers. The titles and subjects are derived from striking phrases spoken during these conversations, like Morning will come and my feelings will ease a little.

It’s a long time ago, but it never fades in my mind, 2024, Oil on linen mounted on panel

Maintaining her interest in the themes of her previous works, such as remnants of daily life, the humanity that persists in certain gestures, or the interiority of human beings, she reconstructs fragments of everyday life scenes drawn from these conversations on the flat and smooth surface of her canvases. In this reconstruction, there is an attempt to transfigure the vulnerability of life.

Winners Reception of National Black History Month Poetry Competition On UN World Poetry Day in the House of Commons

Marking an exceptional celebration of World Poetry Day, the National Black History Month Poetry Competition, under the inspiring theme “Saluting Our Sisters,” reached its grand culmination today. Hosted by BHM Magazine UK, this pivotal competition was conceived as a tribute to the Black History Month 2023, focusing on celebrating the invaluable contributions of Black women and bringing to the forefront the emerging poetic talents from young people and the African and Caribbean communities.

Engaging over 3000 poets across the nation, the competition highlighted the indispensable role of poetry in fostering education and cultural expression. From an overwhelming number of submissions, a panel of esteemed judges shortlisted 105 exceptional poems, with 17 talented poets advancing to the final stage.

The reception, held in the distinguished Churchill Rooms at the House of Commons and hosted by Marsha Chantal de Cordova, not only celebrated the achievements of the finalists and their families but also underscores the collective voice and transformative power showcased in this year’s competition.

Reflecting on the competition’s journey, the organisers shared, “The National Black History Month Poetry Competition was a key highlight of the Black History Month 2023 celebrations, under the theme ‘Saluting Our Sisters’. Aimed at honouring the legacies of Black women and spotlighting new voices within the African and Caribbean communities, the competition has reached its zenith on World Poetry Day and International Women’s Month, thanks to the overwhelming participation and the remarkable talent it has unveiled.”

Esteemed voices from the literary world have lauded the competition:

Joseph Coelho, award-winning performance poet, playwright, children’s author and Waterstones Children’s Laureate 2022 – 2024, remarked, “It was a joy reading and judging the poems for the BHM Saluting Sisters Poetry Competition. I was amazed by the strength and poetic power of these brilliant young voices.”

Cherron Inko-Tariah, Editor-in-Chief of BHM UK Magazine, commented, “Being involved in this poetry competition has been an absolute delight. The diversity and passion in the submissions were outstanding. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to making this competition a success.”

Rob Neil, a judge for the competition, shared, “The experience of reading through these engaging, informative, and impactful poems was incredibly rewarding. The quality of writing and the range of topics covered were inspiring. I am grateful to all participants for sharing their heartfelt words.”

Another judge Charlotte Shyllon, founder and creative director of Black in White said: “It was a great honour to be involved in judging the national BHM poetry competition. There were so many superb entries which demonstrated a breadth and depth of talent across both age categories, from entrants as young as 15 right through to older adults. I really enjoyed seeing how the poems presented different takes on the theme. The quality of the entries made selecting winners and runners-up difficult, but the poems I chose just had that extra special touch. Thanks to all who took the time to enter the competition and share their stories.”

We extend profound gratitude to Marsha De Cordova MP for graciously hosting this significant event. Additionally, our principal sponsors, Kidoodle TV and Wedo TV, deserve special acknowledgment for their instrumental support in bringing this competition to fruition. Empower Your Skin with SKWAD’s Teen Skincare Revolution

Let’s dive into the inspiring journey of SKWAD, a skincare brand that’s rewriting the rules and championing inclusivity, effectiveness, and eco-consciousness. It all started with Elise Kandrac, a mom of 3 teenagers, who noticed something profound about her kids’ self-esteem and the products available for their skincare needs.

Elise’s lightbulb moment came when she realized that her children’s confidence was more influenced by how they felt about their appearance than by their actual achievements. This led her to question why skincare products for teens were often gender-specific. After all, shouldn’t skincare be about feeling good in your own skin, regardless of gender?

Elise embarked on a mission to create gender-neutral skincare solutions, beginning with her own family. She found it challenging to discover products that were gentle yet effective for her daughter’s skin and virtually non-existent options for her son. This gap in the market fueled her determination to challenge the status quo and introduce skincare that’s all about nourishing and protecting young skin without the need for gender labels.

Fast forward to today, and SKWAD is not just a skincare brand – it’s a movement. Inspired by Elise’s strong family ties to Hawaii, SKWAD embraces values of inclusivity, environmental responsibility, and a commitment to doing better for our planet. The brand’s mission is clear: skincare that’s good for you and good for the Earth.

One of the standout products from SKWAD is The Starter Skincare Set for Teens. Imagine having all your besties in one place at the same time – that’s the feeling this set brings.

    The set contains:

    • SKWEEZ Gentle Exfoliating Face Wash (100ml)
      • A gentle yet effective face wash that brightens and softens the skin while protecting its moisture barrier.
    • SKWIRT Hydrating and Exfoliating Facial and Body Toning Spray (100 ml)
      • A versatile toning spray that hydrates, clarifies, and refreshes the skin, suitable for use as a toner or standalone spray.
    • SKWISH Hydrating Moisturiser (100 ml)
      • An easy-to-use moisturizer packed with non-greasy oils and antioxidants, improving hydration and skin barrier function.
    • SKRAPE Nourishing Face Mask & Shaving Cream (100 ml)
      • A dual-function mask that hydrates and protects the skin, suitable for use as a shaving cream or face mask.
    • SKWAD Toiletry Bag For Teenage Girls and Boys
      • A stylish and practical toiletry bag made from sustainable materials, perfect for organizing your skincare essentials on-the-go.

In essence, SKWAD isn’t just about skincare – it’s about empowerment, inclusivity, and making a positive impact. By challenging norms, prioritizing effectiveness, and embracing sustainability, SKWAD sets the bar high for teen skincare and environmental stewardship. Join the SKWAD movement and let your skin and the planet thrive together!
