11th Annual Cheap Chic Wedding #TPDress Contest sponsored by @CharminChic
On June 17th, Kleinfeld Bridal Boutique was the host of the 11th Annual Cheap Chic Wedding Toilet Paper Wedding Dress Contest that awards the winner with a grand prize of $10,000 and for the first time, the winner’s toilet paper design is going to be made into a ready-to-wear dress by Kleinfeld. What an honor!
If you’re not familiar with the Annual Toilet Paper Wedding Dress Contest, sponsored by Charmin, the object is to challenge creative minds from across the country to create a wearable on-trend wedding dress and corresponding headpiece from only toilet paper, glue, tape and a needle and thread. No biggie.
Cheap Chic Weddings received close to 1,500 entries this year! After much deliberation, the founders of CCW, Laura Gawne and Susan Bain, narrowed down the selection to the top ten. Those finalists were flown here to NYC for the final fashion show, which took place at the prestigious Kleinfeld Bridal Boutique.
The boutique floor was transformed into a runway where the top ten finalists strutted their elaborate and beautiful dresses for the celebrity panel of judges. One by one the finalists designs made their way down the makeshift runway passing the celebrity judges, showcasing every detail. From elaborate and beautiful buttons made from glue to detachable and removable skirts and vests, to amazing and breath-taking headpieces and veils.
In the end the judges chose the fitted gown; a tuxedo-inspired design, with a flowing, flower-covered train, and an adorable bow tie with the handmade top hat and detachable pieces created by designer, Donna Pope Vincler. Her dress will be turned into a ready-to-wear item available for sale at Kleinfeld.
But what was going through the judges minds when it came time to choose a final winner? I had the opportunity to interview judge, Mikie Russo, Celebrity Wedding/Party Planner, who said, “…as a judge, I’m looking for a style and design that is reminiscent of a traditional wedding gown, in design, feel and silhouette.”
The judges overall were looking for the dress that had beauty, showcased originality and creativity. They were also looking for the designer that had the best use of toilet paper and followed the rules most well.
In the end, Donna Pope Vincler’s design encompassed every aspect of what the judges were looking for. Congratulations Donna!
