Green PearlsⓇ welcomes Casa León Royal Retreat as the first Green Pearl on the Canary Island of Gran Canaria. This small, sustainable boutique hotel in the island’s interior offers guests the opportunity to indulge themselves, away from mass tourism and with little impact on nature.
Run by a German family, Casa León Royal Retreat has just 25 rooms, almost all with large panoramic windows overlooking the infinity pool and a view up to the sea. The 10,000 square meter hotel garden is not only a place to relax and linger but also a habitat for various native plants such as cacti and palm trees. Oranges, lemons, and herbs used in the hotel kitchen also grow here.
The water used for irrigation comes from the hotel’s own biological wastewater treatment system. This is just one of the many water conservation measures the hotel has implemented in the water-scarce Canary Islands. The hotel is also active in climate protection. To offset CO2 emissions, the owners have leased 40,000 square meters of forest in the Balkans, which they maintain and preserve.
The vernacular architecture and carefully selected furnishings reflect the nature of Gran Canaria: sea, mountains, and sand. The boutique hotel is especially interesting for golfers. The golf season in Gran Canaria is 365 days a year, and there are no less than five golf courses in the immediate vicinity of Casa León Royal Retreat, where hotel guests can enjoy discounts and shuttle services.
In the hotel itself, there is a daily activity program (Lion Program) with yoga, aqua gym, or walks on one of the many hiking trails. In addition, the accommodation offers a SPA, a cocktail bar, and a fireplace.
