I earned a B.A. from the University of California at Santa Barbara in Communication studies. Studying in Santa Barbara was my first introduction to the importance of work/life balance. I earned one of the best educations in communication theory and how to enjoy life and the beach while doing it. 🙂
Since graduating, I have enjoyed a successful 15 year career in marketing communications with top 10 public relations agency Edelman Public Relations, national education non-profit The Milken Family Foundation, Fortune 500 companies Procter & Gamble Beauty and The Virgin Entertainment Group as well as entrepreneurial experience as a freelance marketing consultant.
Currently I’m pursuing a master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology with a specialization in consumer psychology which I intend to use to continue my career in the management consulting industry.
City you live in:
Los Angeles, CA
If there was a theme song in your life, it would be:
Love this question! This changes frequently because I love music, but right now I would pick Jason Mraz’ Live High. The lyrics speak to living a life of high integrity and I’m all about that.
What is the best advice you can give to a women who wants that corner office?
Know yourself and get it on your own terms. In many cases, that corner office can come at the cost of other things in your life. Before you get to what you envision as the pinnacle to success in your industry, know what you’re going to be asked to sacrifice to make that a reality and be honest with yourself about what you are willing to give to get it. If the outline for the job you have your eye on requires too much sacrifice for you personally, create that position on your own terms. Success has many definitions and the ones we’re used to chasing are being reinvented everyday on individually unique terms.
What is the your favorite quote that keeps you motivated?
Oh man, I’m a quote person. I eat and drink them so it’s hard to pick just one. I’m very partial to quotes from sports coaches so I’ll pick this one:
“The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.” – Vince Lombardi
What do you think is the the key to being a successful woman in the marketing industry?
The marketing industry offers a breadth of options in which you can focus your interests. This makes it a great career choice for someone who’s curious about many different things. At the same time it can be very easy to get lost in the options available to you. My advice from this vantage point in my career is explore your options but aim to direct them towards a specialization, something that you are known for and do better than anyone else in your field.

My "Revelation"… For The Ladies
Life is about changes… and experiences… and lessons; life hurts… and it burns… and it mends… and we deal… and for the most part, life is what you make it! As a woman in this hectic city, it’s so easy to blame life for what may not be your “ideal” situation. We blame relationships, and responsibilities, and time for the things that we haven’t been able to do. One thing that I have learned though is that no one can walk your path but you, and anything that may or may not happen to or for you has or hasn’t done so as a result of your own actions. As a woman, I have experienced plenty and have learned many lessons, but I have also learned that I never want to stop learning. A “revelation” if you will, came to me after recent trials which made me realize the true strength of oneself. This being a lesson to share directly with the ladies of HeyDoYou, I figure it has some relevance for us all… and it is this… Problems will occur! Life will suck! Pain will come! SOMETIMES… but I find far too often that we, as women too quickly fall into a rut. Not the kind where we gain ten pounds and forget to keep up with our mani/pedi’s… I mean the kind of rut when something sucks and we punish ourselves for the pain that has been caused by others. We, as women, are the only beings in the human race with the ability to bring life into the world. I’m sorry fellas, we all know that you are great contributors in this process, but from the beginning of time women were created with reproductive organs. I’m not trying to give a biology lesson, I’m merely tryna share my “revelation”… NO ONE should have power over you but you! When times get down… pull urself up… you are strong and beautiful and probably have more talents and abilities than you realize, take care of yourself and be the best YOU you can be… don’t change who you are to accommodate anyone unless these changes make you feel 100% better about yourself. What I’m saying is this, a man once told me “women don’t realize the power they have, why else would a man try to over power and over compensate, being masculine”, my “revelation” has these words constantly echoing in my head. LADIES… tell your girlfriends, sisters, cousins… realize the power you have, you are strong, you are beautiful, you are loved… and only YOU can allow anyone to treat you or tell you otherwise.xoxo
