Ernest Alexander FW14 Menswear Fashion Presentation #MBFW @ernestalexander

The Ernest Alexander presentation kicked off Fashion Week in style at the Industria Studios.

For fall 2014, designer and founder Ernest Sabine took inspiration from board track racing, a type of motorsport that was popular in the United States during the 1910’s and 1920’s that first used wooden planks to race motorcycles on. Racers were impeccably dressed; a typical uniform included a woven shirt worn under a sweater usually paired with a classic chino tucked into riding boots. Ernest includes elements of this past uniform but with an updated, modern take.

Outerwear plays a major role for fall 2014 with a lambskin leather-racing jacket, Ernest’s take on a shearling collared flight jacket and a shawl collar wool coat. Medium to heavy weight wools make for a great set of blazers and trousers that are meant to work as mix-and-match separates within the collection. Wool trousers can also be paired with great knits, classic woven shirts and wool vests with hints of leather details that nod to the racing uniform of the time. Colors are masculine and dark for fall. Shades of grey are a recurrent theme with pops of blue peppered in while statements of black, brown and olive are found in the leather details. Hounds tooth and plaid patterns popular of the decade are used through out. Wool ties match the collection smartly and cotton handkerchiefs add the perfect finishing to the overall look. Classic bag styles are slightly updated and feature new front pockets and waxed glossy finishes which create a glistening sheen. The flight bag carryall is the newest shape to Ernest Alexander and comes in a dark, navy leather and waxed cotton canvas in British tan.

    The City Girl Shoes @NayaShoes

Naya is a line of shoes created for women who want beautiful, comfortable shoes perfect for the CITY. I recently tried leather shoes from Naya called “Valerie” and I have nothing but amazing things to say. Naya’s styles are made with soft, hand-finished leathers, rich colors and a patented comfort system. Wherever possible, Naya uses materials that leave a softer footprint on the Earth.

They are available in NYC at Lord & Taylor stores and at Nordstrom.

The Valerie is a leather suede bootie with a round toe and chunky heel. It has micro studs in the back. When the shoes arrived in the bright green box and separate shoe bags and a shoe form, I knew I was in for a treat. The heels are not too heavy but substantial for city sidewalks. The round toe is fashionable, fun and good for all day walking. I matched these shoes with an asymmetric jersey high slit dress but it can go really cute with drop crotch pants and light  denim of some sort.

The Valerie bootie is for cities girls like and I will wear them all the time before the snow hits the ground!

    That Tricky Fall Fashion @HanesHosiery @coopandhen @limecrime

    Step to Love

The weather is so weird!  I remember Octobers to be snowstorms and now it is unseasonably warm in the 20’s!  The only way to make sense of this strange weather and what you should wear so you don’t get sick is difficult.  The one key item that will make a world of difference in your ootd (outfit of the day) is HANES tights!  These babies will give you the right transition from summer to fall and day to night.  this could easily be a summer outfit if you rocked this with bare legs but because of the textures – Pony hair flats from Coopandhen and the denim jacket with heather sleeves from Rag & Bone, this is now your perfect fall outfit.  Hanes has a wide range of textures, opacity and colors so make sure you pick up at least 3 pairs to get you through November.  A bright lip is my signature look so thank you to Lime Crime  for being the cherry on top.

Tis the season to be chunky — chunky sandals, that is!

Sandal lovers, rejoice! You’re going to love this fall’s shoe trend – chunky sandals. Chunky shoes of all types are in this season and, with plenty of warm weather still to come, you’ll be getting lots of opportunities to wear the thick-soled, substantial looking sandals with your favorite autumn fashions.

    Why?

Many of this falls clothing trends add bulk or visual weight to the top half of the body. Layered necklaces, blouson blouses, A-line dresses and dramatic over-sized collars need to be balanced with a shoe that provides some visual weight too. A roomy blouson top plus skinny jeans plus spiked six-inch heels may equal legs that look a mile-long, but it also equals a body that looks out of proportion. A modern chunky shoe keeps you from looking like you might topple over and keeps you on trend.

    Who?

Everybody can rock a chunky sandal. They’re comfortable and provide great stability, making them appropriate for work, school and running errands. Chunky sandals are great because they give you a little height without having to worry about falling from stiletto heels. But don’t worry fashionistas, there are plenty of ultra-glam styles for you too.  Many styles aren’t the flat, straight-across shapes from the 1990s. Now, chunky sandals echo the shapes of heels and wedges. Many even come with glamorous details like gold zippers, gladiator heel wraps and unexpected colors. For the more feminine, try a delicate floral pattern or a pink patent leather to add some girly chic to your wardrobe.

    How?

Pair chunky shoes with skirts and dresses and slim-fitting pants or skinny jeans. Not only do you want everyone to see them, but wearing thick shoes with a wide-legged pant may create too much visual weight at the bottom and make you look shorter than you are. For work, wear a gorgeous pair of suede gladiator-style chunky sandals with slim fitting suit pants and a banded blouse with an ornate collar. On the weekend, try a pair of faux snakeskin sandals, skinny jeans and a thick, nubby sweater. For a hot evening look, don your most flattering pair of black skinny jeans, a scoop-neck silk blouse with an artful arrangement of layered necklaces and a pair of black patent-leather platform chunky sandals. You’re in!

Chunky shoes remind us that there’s a reason accessories change with the seasons – besides the practical need to be warmer or cooler. When skirts get shorter, shoes get flatter, when dresses become less structured, geometric-inspired jewelry becomes more popular. Fashion is all about proportion and balance. This fall chunky sandals will help you stay in proportion and look fashionable doing it.
