NYC: Doug + Mike Starn on the Roof: Big Bambú

If you have a chance to go to the MET in NY.. Make sure you go check out this exhibit ^_^

Big Bambú is a growing and changing sculpture―a vast network of 5,000 interlocking 30- and 40-foot-long fresh-cut bamboo poles, lashed together with 50 miles of nylon rope. It will continue to be constructed throughout the duration of the exhibition. The first phase of the structure―measuring about 100 feet long, 50 feet wide, and 30 feet high―was completed by opening day, April 27. The artists and rock climbers are continuing to build up the eastern portion of the sculpture to an elevation of 50 feet. By summer, the western portion of the sculpture will be about 40 feet high. An internal footpath artery system grows along with the structure, facilitating its progress. The evolving state of the work is being documented by the artists in photographs and videos.

    CEW with Cristina Carlino

June has been a whirlwind month for me!

Last week I went to the CEW event in Santa Monica and was blown away by the passion and inspiration that Cristina Carlino imparted on all us beauty hopefuls.

The crowd and venue were both beautiful and I am so excited to be going to the NYC event this week with Bobbi Brown.

She talked about how her target demographic was the ‘forgotten woman’ – the mother, the teacher, the nurse, the woman who does not have a good relationship with her mirror or the one who has not bought a lipstick in a long time.

They focused on beauty and love and not the intimidating BEAUTY and GLAMOUR that is often protrayed by the mainstream media.

“My dreams were bigger than my debt. And I had a really really big debt.” – Cristina Carlino Founder of philosophy beauty

    Jewel Says…

“Show me a man who knows his own heart and to him i shall belong.”
    Jewel

Still one of my favorite folk singers of all time. So much truth in all music and lyrics. I listen to KOST all the time and I just love her songs.  I recently met someone and he was gorgeous with a great family background and amazing job. But there was one thing. The thing was that he didn’t know himself. He told me he jumped from one relationship to another and was truly just looking for his next girlfriend. Boyfriend in a box, perfect right? Wrong.  I cannot and will not be with someone who does not fully and truly have a level of self awareness beyond of equal to mine. I simply cannot rob someone that time of self discovery. Makes sense? Or should I just be with him anyway?  I just want to make sure he knows what he wants (me) for real before I put everything into it.  It is so important that you are sure about you before you are so sure about me.

    Jewel Says…

“People living their lives for you on TV, they say they’re better than you and you agree.”
    -Jewel
Even before that advent of reality television and all those ‘reality’ shows, Jewel had to the foresight to tell you to stop that.  I have no owned a TV since 2001 and I feel amazing about it. I never watch TV, I get my news and information from the internet, I go to the theater to watch movies, I listen to the radio everyday while I am cooking, working or reading. I never ever watch TV. When my friends say, have you seen that episode of Friends? Simpsons? Idol? Lost?  All I can say is no.  My life is so much more interesting. Who will save your soul?
