    @VillageVoice #BKPour Craft Beer Fest

The Village Voice’s second Brooklyn Pour took place at Skylight One Hanson. The craft beer extravaganza was fully packed, with two sessions to cater to the huge demand received much in part to the success of last year’s BK Pour. My guess is that Village Voice will probably have to make the event a two-day affair next year as more and more people learn about this Brooklyn secret.

Even with the crowd, attendees could easily get a taste of all 100+ beers, assuming their stomach capacity and tolerance would allow for such a lofty endeavor. One thing I would suggest if you come next year is to make sure that you have a tasting buddy who drinks at about the same pace as you do! I came with a guy and a girl friend and he left us slow sippers in the dust to conquer the tasting floor on his own. Despite my snail’s pace, I did get so sample some great beers.

    Here are the highlights:

    Welcome!

First stop… grab a tasting glass and pencil to mark your beer list

The scenic Skylight One Hanson, formerly  known as the Williamsburg Savings Bank

    Beers, beer and more beer

    From left to right:
    * Three Philosophers by Brewery Ommergang was probably the strongest beer at 9.80% ABV!
    * Love the Rastufa Rye label (Blue Point Brewery).
    * Innis & Gunn Spiced Rum Aged Beers was the “Best Beer in Show” according to my unofficial survey of people standing next to me when I tasted it, and my very own taste buds.

Barefoot wine added a little variety to the beer fest

Another non-beer exhibitor was Greenhook Ginsmiths gin. The American Gin packs an over-proof zing. Beach Plum add some flavor to gin and is tasty either for sipping straight or adding to a cocktail. Owner, Steven DeAngelo, is pictured on the right.

Had to take a pic of this young Richard Gere look alike 🙂

Umm, these pickles–delish! And a perfect accompaniment to a cold, frost beer.

Wine flavored cupcakes. I don’t need to elaborate here. Yum!

    Pretzel, anyone?

    Good old-fashioned chugging contest

    Cheers!

    Gorgeous venue, huh?

See you next year, BK Pour!

Hey, I’m Holly the new guest blogger at heydoyou!

I shall begin by telling you a little bit about myself. I am a British girl living in Brooklyn who made the move to NYC at the end of this summer, after graduating in Anthropology&Cultural Studies. So needless to say I am still fairly new to the city – eager to explore and experience as much as possible! I am a complete magazine junkie, spending far too much of my money on glossy pages full of fashion trends, beauty finds and celebrity gossip. Furthermore  I am a huge foodie and thus love eating out, cooking and discovering new delicious finds.
It is great to be given this opportunity to be part of this blog and I can’t wait to start posting – enjoy!

    October is #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 1 in 8 women the U.S and 1 in 9 in Canada will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. It’s a terrible disease that affects the lives of those diagnosed, as well as their friends and families. This is the month that we really shine a light on breast cancer, the survivors, fighters, and victims, and the life-saving research that is taking place to fight it.

Companies across the country are donating proceeds from the purchase certain products toward breast cancer research. I wanted to highlight some of my favorite products:

Riedel Stemless Wine Glasses: 15% of all proceeds from these glasses to the support of breast cancer survivors

essie Breast Cancer Color Collection: A portion of the proceeds from the essie breast cancer awareness collection will be donated to Living Beyond Breast Cancer

Ellie Shoes: 100% of proceeds will be donated to National Breast Cancer Coalition

The North Face – The North Face will make an annual donation to  Boarding For Breast Cancer, a non-profit, education awareness foundation, to help support their journey to educate and inspire young adults

Movado Watch: Special Edition Breast Cancer Research Foundation – Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Graphic Tee from Footlocker – $5 goes to the American Cancer Society

Bicycle Playing Cards – $.15 from each deck of cards will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Cuisinart Pink Series Blender  – By purchasing  you are helping to fund the Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Betsey Johnson “I’m a Survivor” Charm Bracelet – A portion of the proceeds are donated to Fashion Targets Breast Cancer

Supporting companies that donate proceeds from the purchase of their products to various breast cancer organizations is a great way to help the cause. A more direct way to get involved is to join one of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks that are going on around the country (U.S.) throughout the month of October.

I will be walking in the  Making Strides walk at Jones Beach on Long Island, NY  on October 21. I’d love your support in my effort to raise funds for the walk. Please visit my Making Strides homepage if you’d like to donate (and share with a friend!).

From Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy®-winning director Rich Moore comes “Wreck-It Ralph,” a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping adventure. For decades, Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) has been overshadowed by Fix-It Felix, Jr. (voice of Jack McBrayer), the good-guy star of their game who always gets to save the day. Tired of playing the role of a bad guy, Ralph takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a journey across the arcade through multiple generations of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.

On his quest, Ralph meets tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch) from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty, and feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) from the candy-coated cart-racing game Sugar Rush, who may just be his first real friend. But everything changes when a deadly enemy is unleashed, threatening the entire arcade and Vanellope herself. Ralph finally gets his chance to save the day—but can he do it in time? “Wreck-It Ralph” crashes onto the big screen on November 2, 2012, in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.
