Latest Ladybug Adventure Teaches Important Lesson About the Value of Connecting With Others

From the creative team of William Dandurand and Elisabeth Revel comes a cool new kid’s book perfect for summer reading, Hillary the Little Ladybug: Hide and Seek.

In this latest installment in the popular Hillary the Little Ladybug series, young readers get to follow along as precocious ladybug Hillary and her good friend Tiny Tim embark on a whirlwind adventure that will test their courage and strength. The two friends fly to the snowcapped Ladybug Mountains and come face to face with unusual, furry white creatures. The surprising encounter is frightening at first, particularly for Tiny Tim. Snowflake and his family are vastly different from Hillary and Tiny Tim, and yet, the snow monsters welcome the ladybugs with open arms, and then the fun begins! Everyone enjoys a wild and wonderful snowball fight and a spirited game of hide-and-seek.

The events of the day leave Tiny Tim feeling braver than ever, as he faces his fears and finds unexpected friendships.

As Hillary and Tiny Tim fly home, their wings are tired, but their hearts are full. The snow monsters taught Hillary and Tiny Tim that true warmth comes from within, and that

being brave and reaching out to connect with others is rewarded with bonds that can last a lifetime.

Authors William Dandurand, Elisabeth Revel, Gary Revel and Mary Cohen have collaborated on the 22-part children’s book series (intended for ages 3 and up), which explores climate change and other socially relevant topics through Hillary’s experiences. Hillary’s other exciting escapades have included saving ladybugs from a praying mantis, meeting Bigfoot, exploring a haunted castle, going on a nuclear submarine ride, traveling on an alien spaceship and flying to the moon.

“Parents have found the books entertaining as well, especially when they read them to their children,” Gary Revel said.

WORKERS AT GLENSTONE MUSEUM VOTE TO JOIN TEAMSTERS

Art Staff Overcomes Union Busting to Join Local 639, Prepares for Negotiations

Workers at the Glenstone Museum, a private contemporary art museum in Potomac, Maryland, have joined Teamsters Local 639. The group of 89 workers includes all hourly guides, café workers, registration, grounds, engineering and maintenance, community engagement, and housekeeping staff.

“I was proud to vote yes in this election because I believe that everyone who works at Glenstone deserves a happy, healthy, and fulfilling work environment,” said Lynx Merchant, a guide at Glenstone and new member of Local 639.

“We are the face of Glenstone. From interacting with visitors in the galleries and dining locations to the spotless windows and maintenance of lush landscape, we keep Glenstone running through our daily labor,” said Elizabeth Shaw, a grounds and visitor liaison and new member of Local 639. “I am excited about the opportunity to bring the realities of our work to the bargaining table and negotiate a contract that will ensure the sustainability of our employment.”

Glenstone workers organized with the Teamsters to secure livable wages, improved benefits, and safer working conditions. Many at Glenstone are forced to work second jobs, and part-time employees are not provided health care benefits. Weather safety is also a major concern, with staff being forced to work outdoors during extreme heat and cold.

“We organized with the Teamsters because we need a livable wage and better working conditions,” said Mohannad Shoair, a café attendant at Glenstone and a new member of Local 639. “There is absolutely no justifiable reason any of us should be required to work two jobs to pay rent or work in unsafe conditions. We can’t wait to negotiate a strong first contract that addresses our collective concerns and provides the wages, benefits, and working conditions that we deserve.”

During the organizing campaign, workers faced an intense union-busting campaign orchestrated by the museum’s multi-billionaire owners, Mitchell and Emily Rales. The Glenstone Foundation, which reported net assets of $4.4 billion in 2022, spent tens of thousands of dollars on union avoidance consultants from known union-busting firms Proskauer Rose and the American Labor Group.

“These workers defeated a sophisticated union-busting assault personally waged by some of the wealthiest people in America,” said Bill Davis, President of Local 639. “I want to welcome them to our local union, and I look forward to helping them negotiate a first Teamsters contract.”

Founded in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents 1.3 million hardworking people in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. Visit Teamster.org for more information. Follow us on Twitter @Teamsters and “like” us on Facebook at Facebook.com/teamsters.

Trend: Next Gen Travel – Travel From the Inside Out

Before you begin a paralyzing Google search, why not take a minute to ask yourself a few questions. What are your travel intentions? Getaway? Explore? Awakening?

The vast majority of us dont take time to reflect, slow down, or figure out what matters. Whats truly important. We rarely ask ourselves, what do I long for? Travel, like most things in life, is prescriptive; search, pack, go.

Lets face it, we all need a break from a world that consistently demands more of us. Yet, do we ask ourselves what we really want? Can we craft experiences to elevate our lives? I say yes and believe travel is the ideal classroom for self-discovery. A time for creative inspiration, or the perfect opportunity to discover a new path, purpose, or passion. Its leaving routines back home and traveling in the moment; consciously. Its mindful travel. Traveling from the inside out without being consumptively led.

    Exploratory Questions to Ask Yourself

    1. Do you need a getaway? Maybe ask yourself what you want to get away from.
    2. Are you eager to explore a new place?
    • Has life become dull and youre looking to fill the void using travel?
    • Do you need inspiration for a new creative project?
    • Is it personal? Are you feeling stuck in your marriage, career, or family situation and need time away to reevaluate things?
    1. Are you traveling to reconnect with a friend or partner? A desire that helps you realize life has become a big distraction, and you’re feeling very disconnected from loved ones, or even more important, from yourself?

The external trappings of travel — food, shopping, accommodations — easily distract us. Yet, without an intended focus and time for stillness, self-observation, and reflection, travel is just another hamster wheel in a gorgeous setting. Yes, the external stuff is great, but it shouldnt be the sole focus.

    What If You Could

    1. Return home with a new inner-understanding to help you realize what you’re running from, what you feel is missing?
    2. While away, you come into a full awareness that your dream job has become a nightmare. A realization thats difficult to see when you are deep in the routines of daily hustle. Now that you know…
    3. You may not pinpoint anything while you’re away, but having a new awareness puts you on a path of self-discovery.
    4. Maybe you recognize your busyness has gotten out of control. You’re not in sync with family, friends, and most importantly, yourself. This in itself can cause an underlying malaise thats often confounding until you slow down long enough to see it.

How to Travel For Self Discovery

Part one of my debut book Unpack Your Personality: Let Your Inner Guide Be Your Travel Guide provides actionable and practical steps to plan intentional, inside-out travel sojourns. Dedicated chapters give travelers the tools to begin an awakening journey, connecting to their true selves:

    1. The Collective Illusions of Travel & Personality Typing
    2. Travel Therapy for Self-Discovery
    3. Travel with Intention: A How To Guide

These chapters, and the rest of the book, help you unpack who you are and guide you into who you want to be. Its a contemporary perspective on the 1940s

    Myers-Briggs.

When you travel with external intentions only, you stay in your mind, not letting your true self have a voice.

Traveling today can be overwhelming and distracting. Next gen travel focuses on traveling from the inside-out. It breeds personal development. And, at the end of the day, dont we all want to be a better person? When you travel intentionally, you become a more conscious traveler. One who is likely to respect different cultures while supporting sustainability efforts.

The intention is to help travelers enjoy delicious physical experiences while learning about the soul’s role in personality typing. Its a trailblazing way to discover your true self!

If you think your readers/listeners are ready to get up close and personal with their personality type, where Myers-Briggs® takes an enlightened vacation, lets talk. We could do an on-air reveal of your travel persona, making the segment fun, entertaining, and interesting. Let me know if youre interested. Id love to be part of your show.

Orange County, N.Y., Tourism Rebrands, Urging All to ‘Pick OCNY’ With New Slogan, Logo – and the Friendly Mascot ‘Hudson’

New Campaigns Will Spotlight Endless Reasons to Visit: Events, Family Fun, Farm-Fresh Foods, Entertainment and Cultural Touchstones, All Just One Hour from NYC

Orange County Tourism & Film unveiled its fresh new branding today, with an eye-catching apple-themed logo, the upbeat slogan, “Pick Orange County” – and even a new mascot, Hudson.

In keeping with the new slogan, the tourism website’s address is now pickocny.com.

“Tourism is vital to Orange County, N.Y.’s economy, and Orange County is a terrific Tourism destination. The County offers adventure, family fun, farm-fresh goodness, rich history, a thriving craft beverage scene and spectacular views and vistas, all just 50 miles from New York City,” said Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus. “Our new tourism branding brings a lively dynamic that will reflect these qualities on the County’s tourism website, social media, travel guide, ads and many other platforms.”

Amanda Dana, Director of Orange County Tourism & Film, added, “Our diverse attractions and destinations are among the many reasons to love Orange County, which is why we welcome visitors from New York City and around the region, nation and world. The new logo, slogan and mascot make a great introduction for people to see why they should Pick Orange County!”

Neuhaus and Dana were joined by travel expert Josiah Brown, known as “The New York Sherpa,” who is a national expert on tourism. They unveiled the new logo in a ceremony at the Orange County Tourism & Film Welcome Center, 99 Main St., Goshen.
    OCNY-Tourism Logo.jpg
The new branding introduces an eye-catching logo that features an illustration of a red apple with “Pick” written on a green leaf and “OCNY” in the body of the iconic fruit. The logo conveys a fun, laid-back atmosphere, while maintaining a mature and confident appearance. It calls to mind the many orchards and farms where visitors pick their own apples and other produce, and also entices visitors to Orange County’s traditional bucolic settings, diverse family-friendly activities, arts and envelope-pushing cultural touchstones.

The spirit of the region is also captured in the new Orange County Tourism tagline: “The Fresh State of Mind.”

The star of the unveiling was the mascot, Hudson, a friendly dog with large blue eyes and an orange “Pick OCNY” bandana. Hudson will help educate visitors about the endless rewards of a visit to Orange County, from discovering a hand-crafted gift in a quaint downtown to visiting some of the state’s most iconic destinations – including the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the Storm King Art Center, LEGOLAND® New York Resort and Woodbury Common Premium Outlets.

OCNY Tourism Mascot - Hudson.jpg“Hudson will be the loveable, friendly face you’ll find around the county,” Dana said. “Look for him to guide you in how best to enjoy everything Orange County has to offer.”

Tourism is a cornerstone of the county’s economy, attracting $1.1 billion in visitor spending in 2022 while supporting more than 11,000 jobs. That revenue saved Orange County property owners more than $1,000, on average, in annual state and local taxes.

“Tourism is a crucial component of Orange County, N.Y.’s charm and lifestyle,” Neuhaus said. “Visits to our attractions, restaurants and accommodations create jobs, significantly drive our county’s economic growth, and have helped us lower County taxes to rates not seen since the 1960s.”

The new campaigns will invite visitors to explore Orange County, which for New York City Metropolitan Area residents, is close enough for a day trip and jampacked with enough fun and fascinating activities for a weekend or mid-week stay. Orange County also is accessible via New Jersey Transit’s (Metro-North) Port Jervis Line and regional bus service.

In addition to its year-round and seasonal attractions, Orange County hosts widely renowned annual events such as the Pine Bush UFO Festival, the Great American Weekend in Goshen, the New York Renaissance Faire and the Warwick Applefest. Orange County Airport is one of six locations across the country where the New York Airshow wows audiences.

Attendees at Orange County’s rebranding ceremony sampled some of the county’s most iconic offerings. They sipped apple cider and munched on tasty cider doughnuts, a regional specialty from Soons Orchards. They also enjoyed maple syrup from Finding Home Farms and gelato from the Ice Capps food truck.

“Even though I’m nearing 1,000,000 miles driven on the road across New York State and America, Orange County is still where my heart is,” said Brown, the tourism expert. “The vibrant communities that make up Orange County are not by mistake, but the product of leaders fostering and preserving the quality of life here. The visitor economy here has been built and stewarded with intentionality which has created a quality-of-place that so many residents enjoy year-round. The measure of success for the future of every county will be their ability to create, herald and steward a positive brand impression in the minds of future and current residents, businesses, and investors. I’m so excited to see this rebranding process take place here and confident it will keep Orange County, N.Y., leading into the future.”

Making the most of a visit continues to become easier with Orange County Tourism’s easy-to-use website, now at pickocny.com, which drew more than 1 million annual visits for the first time last year. That was a 23% increase over 2022. The site helps visitors to find the places and activities that entice them the most and to tailor their adventure for a richer, more rewarding and fresh-feeling visit.

“We love seeing visitors from all over enjoying everything that Orange County has to offer,” Dana said. “Our new branding perfectly introduces the sights, the tastes and the spirit of fun discovered by guests from around the world. We hope to continue seeing the many repeat visitors who have come to love Orange County, and to welcome newcomers discovering our county’s pleasures for the first time.”
