CT Jeweler Hosts Month-Long “Breast Friends Fund-raiser” for Customer Survivor

According to the American Cancer Society, about 287,850 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women across the United States this year and 25% of them will have metastatic or stage 4 breast cancer.  One woman who  has chosen to look at her disease not as a burden, but as a way to help others is Glastonbury resident Sandy Cassanelli, who founded Breast Friends Fund (BFF), a non-profit organization dedicated to research and treatment of metastatic breast cancer.  Now, Cassanelli charity is getting a boost from her BFF retailer – Baribault Jewelers and its premier The Power to B bracelet collection.  Specifically, the family-owned business is hosting a Charity Shopping Event on Thursday, October 13, 2022, as well as offering a limited-edition The Power to B pink and silver bracelet throughout October National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in which BFF will receive 20% of the proceeds from both jewelry programs.

“As a long-time customer, friend and neighbor, we support and applaud Sandy’s commitment to find a cure for metastatic breast cancer,” said Christina Baribault Ortiz, co-founder of The Power to B.  “In fact, her positive spirit and unwavering determination to raise awareness for this type of breast cancer was our inspiration in creating the ‘B Strong’ power word for The Power to B collection.”

The Power to B bracelets encourage its wearers to B Strong, B Fierce, B Badass, B Limitless or B Fearless by linking the cursive phrases with a colorful cord or chain. The commemorative BFF bracelet is pink and silver, the signature colors of breast cancer awareness. The bracelet, which retails at an affordable $68 is available starting October 1, 2022 until inventory lasts at Baribault Jewelers’ store located at 81 Rankin Road in Glastonbury and on The Power to B website and at Water Street Jewelers in Guilford and Madison, CT

Besides the month-long bracelet campaign, Baribault Jewelers is also hosting a Charity Shopping Event on Thursday, October 13, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. in which 20% of the proceeds from all jewelry purchases in the store and online will be donated to BFF.

“As one of my favorite shopping destinations, I am honored that Baribault Jewelers has made Breast Friends Fund the beneficiary of this powerful two-pronged initiative,” said Sandy Cassanelli, founder and president of Breast Friends Fund. “There’s a lot of competition among breast cancer charities this time of the year and we distinguish ourselves by earmarking every dollar to breast cancer research to produce a cure.”

Cassanelli further notes that 100% of monies raised through her volunteer-run non-profit are directed to Dr. Eric Winer, one of the foremost researchers on metastatic breast cancer in the country, who is leading a team of researchers at Yale New Haven Health’s Smilow Cancer Hospital.  Besides serving as Director of the Yale Cancer Center, Dr. Winer is a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and President-Elect of the American Society of Clinical Oncology(ASCO).

“As a family who has been in business for nearly 75 years, we always heed the call to help relatives and friends in need,” adds Raeann Baribault Schwartz, co-founder of The Power to B. “We consider Sandy our surrogate sister and hope that our charitable collaboration shines a spotlight on the urgency to find treatments and a cure for breast cancer.  After all, it’s not just Sandy and her family who need a miracle – the entire world needs it.”

    About Breast Friends Fund

Sandy Cassarelli, a metastatic breast cancer survivor, created Breast Friends Fund (BFF) in 2016 as a fundraising initiative for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute with a goal of finding a cure for the Stage 4 disease.  All donated funds are earmarked “restricted” for Dr. Eric Winer, an internationally renowned metastatic breast cancer researcher, who is currently serving as Director of Yale Cancer Center and Physician-in-Chief of Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut.  As of 2022 BFF has raised close to $900,000 and growing each day.  To ensure that a cure is found, BFF is volunteer-run, and operating costs are personally funded by Craig & Sandy Cassanelli. Sandy and her family feel a sense of urgency when it comes to supporting Dr. Winer and his team in their effort to find treatments and a cure for breast cancer for the future of our daughters, sisters, nieces, mothers, aunts, and friends.  Visit www.breastfriendsfund.org for more information.

Baribault Jewelers and The Power to B collection is donating 20% of the proceeds from every purchase of its limited-edition, inspirational, bracelet to the Breast Friends Fund non-profit organization during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October to raise funds for metastatic breast cancer research and treatment.  The charitable bracelet is custom designed with a silver power word on a pink cord to give hope and strength to the wearer.

Award-Winning Parma! Introduces New Nut-Free Garlic Basil & Jalapeno Bacon Vegan Parmesan Flavors Featuring Deliciously Nutritious Pumpkin Seeds

Yet again shaking up the burgeoning plant-based cheese category, award-winning Parma! (www.eatparma.com), the brand behind a highly popular array of dairy-free parmesan alternatives, today introduces a new line of entirely nut-free products. The announcement was made by company CEO Shannon Schnibbe, who founded Sister River Foods and its Parma! subsidiary in 2004.

Available in 3.5 ounce and 7-ounce jars on Amazon and on the www.eatparma.com site (please find links below) and soon in retail stores nationwide, the new nut-free line from Parma! is debuting with two irresistible vegan flavors – Jalapeno Bacon and Garlic Basil.

    Pumpkin Power!

Both new Parma! products have replaced walnuts with organic pumpkin seeds. Hailed as a superfood given their many health benefits, pumpkin seeds are a major natural source of L-arginine – the amino acid that plays a significant role in nitric oxide production, a key ingredient in fighting heart disease.

In addition, pumpkin seeds are important for men’s health as a result of their high zinc content, are good for post-menopausal women, are able to help the body build protein, are rich in essential minerals and are food allergy friendly.

Nut-Free Parma! is made in dedicated equipment in a facility that processes walnuts.

Commenting on the new flavors, Ms. Schnibbe said, “Parma! fans have been asking us to create a nut-free line for quite a while and after taking the time necessary to formulate the tastiest and most nutritious products possible, we think our new Jalapeno Bacon and Garlic Basil flavors will soon become consumer favorites. We look forward to a successful launch of our new nut-free products and to adding additional flavors to the line in the near future.”

Plant-Based Parmesan Takes A Bold Step Forward With

With just the right condiment, a plain salad becomes a festival of flavors, a plate of vegetables transforms into a delectable stroll through a country garden, and an ordinary bowl of pasta becomes a savory work of art. And perhaps no condiment covers as many different foods and as many different cultures as classic parmesan cheese.

Created to offer consumers who follow a vegan or allergen-free diet an authentically mouth-watering alternative to traditional parmesan, Parma! is comprised of six deliciously distinct varieties. Beyond the two new nut-free flavors, the Parma! family of products includes Better Than Bacon Parma! (voted Favorite Bacon-Flavored Product in 2017 by VegNews magazine), Original Parma!, Chipotle Cayenne Parma! and Garlicky Green Parma!

A plant-based umami superfood line of convenient and affordable complete protein products, all Parma! flavors are paleo and keto-friendly, dairy-free, soy-free, gluten-free, non-GMO and Certified Kosher. Moreover, all six Parma! flavors contain whole raw ingredients, are low in sodium, heart-healthy, packed with essential B vitamins and trace minerals, replete with beneficial animo acids and an excellent source of healthy oils.

    A World Of Flavor

Available in health stores nationwide as well as on the www.eatparma.com site, Amazon, VitaCost and other online retailers, Parma! is ideal for environmentally conscious consumers, vegans, vegetarians, flexitarians and all health conscious eaters. Unlike some other vegan cheese alternatives, Parma! has also proven highly appealing to mainstream cheese aficionados who are ready to eschew traditional cheese so long as a healthier option boasting authentic flavor, aroma and texture is available.

Sold in 3.5 and 7-ounce bottles, Parma! can be savored on pasta, lightly steamed vegetables, pizza, salads, potatoes, avocado toast, popcorn and countless other hor d’oeuvres, main dishes and desserts. For suggested recipes, please visit https://eatparma.com/cat egory/recipes/.

    Only The Beginning

Founded in 2004, Parma! has steadily grown to its current status as a leader in the dairy-free cheese alternative arena and a key player in the multi-billion-dollar global vegan food category.

According to Tofurky founder Seth Tibbott, an advisor to Parma! since the company’s inception, “Like Tofurky, Parma is an authentic, trailblazing brand with deep roots that took hold when the plant-based world was very young. I love that it is a family owned business run by kind, passionate people producing a wholesome vegan food with exceptional flavor.”

Adds Ms. Schnibbe, “Parma! gives you that cheesy flavor without all the dairy baggage. It provides an excellent food source of high-quality vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins, omega 3’s and trace minerals, along with the natural goodness of hemp, and it tastes great! We’re truly grateful for the exceptionally warm reception our brand has received from consumers and industry leaders since our very first days on the market and look forward to continuing to shake up the dairy-free industry for many, many years to come.”

ABCs of Beekeeping Spelled Out in Lively New Children’s Book

Suburban beekeeper Justin Weiss aims to inspire the next generation of bee enthusiasts and environmentalists with his vibrantly illustrated new children’s book, B is for Beekeeping: An Alphabet Book.

With concise, easy-to-understand language, such as “C is for comb,” and “H is for honey,” Weiss introduces young audiences to the ABCs of beekeeping and the critical role that honeybees play in the ecosystem.

“Did you know one-third of the food we eat gets pollinated by honeybees?” asked Weiss, who started beekeeping a few years ago on a whim. “While at first I was afraid of handling honeybees, it turns out having thousands of them buzzing around is quite therapeutic. This hobby has lifted my spirits when I’ve most needed it, and I’ve enjoyed sharing it with my friends and family.”

In B is for Beekeeping, Weiss uses each letter of the alphabet to teach a beekeeping term and idea, and each fascinating new fact is brought to life by a bright, playful illustration.

Perfect for parents, grandparents and teachers, B is for Beekeeping intends to encourage children to explore the “un-bee-lievable” world around them and to respect some of the smallest, but mightiest, creatures.

    About the Author

Justin Weiss is a husband, father and hobby beekeeper. He loves to explore the world with his family and try new foods.

Born and raised in California, he currently lives outside of Dallas, Texas, on a small suburban homestead. He and his wife have a garden, keep bees, raise quail and chickens, and have an orange cat named Leo. He is fluent in Spanish, having also lived in Chile, Easter Island and Spain.

Weiss serves his community as the assistant city manager and also as a board member for the local school district’s education foundation.

It has always been a dream of his to publish a book — a special gift for his children that he hopes they will want to pass down one day, too.

A portion of all sales of this book will be donated to organizations such as Pollinator Partnership, the Bee Conservancy and Project Apis m. For more information, visit www.bisforbeekeeping.com, or follow the author on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/BeekeepingBook.
