    Patricia Field x Barbie

I got a bunch of Tweets and emails asking me about the bag I used at the GShock event… So here it is…

I rock mine with a Barbie pink ribbon and a pheasant feather I got on Venice beach. It represents prosperity and resourcefulness. Both of which is a constant reminder of what I do and who I am. The pheasant is a native bird of China where it is revered for its beauty, its feather represents yang energy and so it carries attributes of fire, life, summer and action. They are the cousin of a peacock but not quite the same. Their energy stimulates sexuality, encourages creativity, and enhances energy. Now you know why I have it right?

It’s the Pat Field x Barbie LUXE Limited Edition Hobo in Black Croc that I got in 2009, wasn’t expensive but definitely a statement piece and one of my favs. Every day practicality with piazzas!

Katy Perry has the white one, but you know me. All Black Everything!

    Paris Hilton has one too

    A real Barbie? Yup!

    Official Ken

This marketing campaign for Ken dolls really hits the spot. Whoever is running the Ken Facebook is dope.  Here is the jist. Ken and Barbie broke up 7 years ago. Now he is out and about, single ready to mingle.  He will become a cultural icon just like Barbie is.

    Here is the latest post
Ken Dressed to impress: Wayfarers, Air Force Ones and a plain white T. Simple does it – trust me.

    🙂  *thumbs way up*

You can follow Ken Carson from Malibu, CA on Twitter

This is so funny. Every girl grows up with the Barbie fantasy – endless amounts of clothes, shoes, handbags and styles. Perfect body and no brain under all that pretty long hair.  And then they have Ken, the equally ‘perfect’ boo that dress sharp, has no beer belly and never wants to watch football instead of shopping with you.  Do you dream about cruising down the PCH with Ken in your hot pink convertible?
Does it surprise you that I don’t?  I never have…  I don’t want a Ken doll cuz I don’t want to be Barbie.

I had an interesting conversation with my beau du jour yesterday.  He told me to stop thinking so much about the future and where it’s all going and for me to chill out and just really enjoy the moment. This has really always been an issue for me because I am a future oriented person who constantly lives 5 years in advance. The remedy? Blogging… At least I can document what is happening in this whirlwind life of mine.

Twitter is really interesting because it makes people like me really work my imagination. You judge someone by what they say and what they wonder. Ever question is really the answer. So do I want to endlessly analyze every cryptic Tweet he posts once a blue moon?

“how many times can this break before it doesn’t work no more?”

Or do I want to follow Ken who Tweets:

“No matter how eager you are, never pick up the phone on the first ring when a girl calls you back. #kentips”

Maybe the mysterious ice box emotionally challenged men are really all Ken dolls inside. Deep inside. Maybe they are not. Maybe Ken would become that guy after Barbie cheats on him with his squash partner, takes the ring, leaves him standing at the alter and changes her mind. Then maybe I will want to be with him after Barbie did her number on his heart under the perfect plastic chiseled chest?

I didn’t even make the connection until I saw this post and I realized that Ken and the Icebox dude are actually the SAME guy.
Ken:  Look sharp…the dolls will follow.
My beau: Just be a nice guy and never chase em. They will come.
With all the battle wounds of the love war, the lies, the disappointment, the betrayals.. and then STILL choose to love again? (because he knows im worth it!) After all that?  I want that Ken doll. Where do I find him?

    David Dixon at LGFW

    Recap pt 4 & 5 : HeyDoYou x LG Fashion Week ♥
    Oh-em-gee Barbie by David Dixon!

That was my reaction when I saw the LGFW Program, however I found the collection to be a total let down!!! So so so disappointed, it seems Barbie grew up, and lost her sense of style, fun, imagination and is now settling for basic boring shit, as long as it’s pink… YUCK. As someone that grew up on Barbie, I don’t think David Dixon showed us anything that I or even Barbie would like to wear… But you be the judge.

So after the disastrous Barbie show, David Dixon treated us to some pieces from his own collection….and this time they were all winners!!!

    David Dixon: Barbie

Toronto’s LG Fashion Week rolled out the pink carpet outside its tented venue at Nathan Phillips Square as David Dixon presented a limited-edition collection inspired by Barbie.

Dixon did double duty as he kicked off the event Monday night, first presenting a signature fall 2009 collection, followed a selection of designs which brought the iconic doll to life on the runway.

Dixon channelled contemporary and classic looks with a mix of both refined and bold prints as black, ivory and Barbie’s signature hot pink prevailed as the dominant colour story in the collection.

The designer presented a variety of jacket styles for fall/winter 2009-10, opening the collection with an eye-popping empire coat in pink, while later incorporating the vibrant hue into a houndstooth peacoat.

While houndstooth was in abundance in the designs, it also gave way for other bold, graphic patterns from crosshatch – resembling multiple intersecting lines – on wool coats and empire dresses, to mosaic patterns that added unique texture, dimension and detailing to jacquard jackets.

He even incorporated a vintage print in a tie blouse and dress inspired by the signature black-and-white swimsuit donned by the original Barbie launched in 1959.

Dixon’s dresses ranged from the traditional shift style to bias ribbon dresses and gowns which closed out the collection featuring bountiful folds cascading down the length of the dresses.

Dixon said he was approached by Mattel Canada several months ago to do a ready-to-wear collection in honour of the doll’s 50th anniversary.

“She was an aspirational figure for me and the women I design for are people who inspire me, so really, Barbie became that,” Dixon said backstage following the show.

The designer said while he looked to the archives to help draw inspiration for his plastic muse, he had a clear vision of wanting to create a collection for the everyday modern-day women of all backgrounds.

Dixon’s collection comes on the heels of New York Fashion Week last month where designers including Michael Kors, Badgley Mischka and Vera Wang were among those tapped to dress 50 models who wore Barbie-inspired ensembles.

Beyond the fashions on the runway, pink was used to ample effect from the warm light that bathed the entryway to runway where a chandelier was affixed overhead, to the blast of confetti that showered the catwalk at the conclusion of the runway show.

Prior to the presentation of the Barbie collection, men wearing cheeky T-shirts emblazoned with “Ken Who?…” walked out onto the runway carrying trays stacked with canned cocktails with straws tucked inside to distribute to stylewatchers in attendance.

It was a slightly more subdued atmosphere on the runway with Dixon’s signature collection called Brave, which preceded the Barbie-inspired designs.

The fall 2009 designs showcased more muted colours and monochromatic colour pairings, sticking largely to black, white and grey with the occasional infusions of colour.

Unlike his spring collection which featured a number of free-flowing dresses, the silhouette was overall slightly scaled down to a more form-fitting look, notably in the elegant silk wool shift and slinky one-shoulder glazed jersey dress.

But he didn’t shy away from draped detailing such as the elongated widened sleeves on the foiled wool kimono and dress. He also made bold mixes of fabrics and patterns, such as one dress that featured a patent leather bodice with a skirt comprised of multi-coloured silk charmeuse.

Embroidered black feathers and dazzling black beading were put to use on organza separates including a lush dress and flowing trapeze top.

Pants transitioned from full length to flirting just above the ankle, featured fabrics and designs from glazed wool and wool angora to grey plaid.

    Fashion Week continues until Saturday.
