Tips for the Fashion Week Newbie
Hurray! It’s Vancouver Fashion Week, but what do I wear?
Going to your first fashion week can sometimes seem a little daunting.
After all, there are designers, models, artist, actors and the creme de la creme of the “beautiful people” world. Hold up! While this may be partly true, keep in mind the event is about fashion, having fun and looking good doing so.Your purpose is to check out the new collections; What are the “must haves” fashion pieces for next season and the newest and hottest designers to watch for next year. Let’s be honest; it’s also about seeing and being seen while showing off what YOUR style is. Yes, you may not be on the runway but you are attending the event and your appearance is important.
Here are a few tips to get you through this exciting event.
1. Be yourself – You are your best self when you are comfortable in what you are wearing. By comfortable, I don’t mean wearing flats, Lulus, and a t-shirt. I mean the outfit that states “this is me, and I look stunning.” Be current, but be yourself.
2. Trend statements – trends are constantly changing, hence the word “trend.” Changing your wardrobe every season to keep up with other fashionistas doesn’t mean, dare I say… you have YOUR style, it means you are a follower. Don’t be a follower, be a trendsetter. You can get statement pieces that are “trendy”- rock the bow tie, wear polka dots with stripes. If it’s you, be BOLD and own it!
3. Shoes – Shoes make all the difference to an outfit. You could be wearing the most expensive attire and have a poorly made shoe, and it would ruin your outfit. Start your outfit out by picking your shoes than work your way up. The last thing you need is to have the perfect outfit, get to your front door and not have a pair that compliments what you are wearing.
4. Confidence – Nothing in your wardrobe is more important than confidence. If you don’t have the confidence to pull it off, it won’t matter what you wear.
5. Have fun – Sure people are judging, I’m judging right now, it’s human nature and who cares? When you sit in that chair and realize you get to watch your favorite designers showcase their newest collection LIVE, nothing else will matter.
6. Remember – You can never be too overdressed. This is so true and even more true for fashion week.

Beauty Must Have: true lipz
Every girl needs a good lip gloss to keep her lips hydrated and pampered throughout the evening. My favorite lip gloss at the moment is true lipz Dragon’s Blood. This product is a definite must have in your beauty bag. This breakthrough in lip color and deep hydration is so unique and the colors are stunning! I love the ultra-smooth texture and lustrous shine that gives your makeup that final touch. This ultra-rich formula is packed with natural emollients that revitalize and nourish. Did I mention it comes with a mirror and LED light? No more waiting on long bathroom lines to reapply gloss!

Event LOVE: @ThinkReese 2014 Collection Preview
We were invited to an Exclusive Preview of the REESE 2014 collection on Thursday. If you’ve seen any of Reese’s pieces then you know we were in for quite a treat- from sexy and unique bathing suits, to beautiful cultured pieces, and pretty printed dresses; this was gonna be good! I was especially looking forward to seeing the “Tourist-Oviya” piece and almost lost my mind when I did, because it’s just as beautiful in person as it looks in the online store! I need it in my life like yesterday!!
“It’s not what you wear… it’s how you wear it”– Reese
The lady of the hour!
It’s totally inspiring to see someone from Toronto doing some amazing things in the world of fashion and accessories all over the world, and the fact that she makes everything herself? AMAZING.
Below are some of my favourite pieces from the collection.
“The Reese woman is a risk-taker…”– Reese
I love and need this dress in my life!
A big thank you to Reese for inviting us and sharing her collection with us!

Event LOVE: Last day of @CPFW2013
Canada Philippine Fashion Week (CPFW) fabulously strutted into town with all the glitz, glamour and culture that anyone could hope for a couple weeks ago. Due to my work schedule, I wasn’t able to go to all the events, but I made sure that I was there to celebrate the last of CPFW. There. Was. No Way. That I was going to miss it. What was great about this event is that I got to see pieces from the collections of all the designers up-close, as well as meet some of the designers, which was awesome! It’s different to see clothes on the runway, but when you get up-close you get to see all the clean finishes, the intricate details, you get to feel the fabric… it was great!
GOTSTYLE was the perfect place to celebrate the last day of CPFW Toronto 2013.
Looking sharp sir!
The featured Filipino and Canadian designers were: Amina Aranaz, Brian Maristela, Francis Libiran, John Ablaza, John De Porter, Leonard Co, Noel Crisostomo, Norman Noriega, and Roland Alzate.
Gorgeous gowns!The details!! Love.
Loved hanging out with Ms. Theresa!
Jon De Porter’s jewellery is GORGEOUS!!!
This dress is heavy, but beautifully made!
These clutches maaaaaaaaannnnn! All hand-made. Love.
These blazers are for men, but I’d totally rock them, any day!!
Are you seeing how CLEAN these blazers are???
Getting the 4-1-1 on these beautiful gowns.
“It’s all about the chest!” these two were so funny lol
I spent some time trying on pretty much all the pieces lol
THESE. EARRINGS. ARE .EVERYTHING.
She couldn’t resist and had to try on the dress. I don’t blame you girl!
“…because normal never lead to extraordinary”
One more time man. I love these earrings.
I cannot wait for the next CPFW, and there is no way I’m missing that one. A big congratulations to Jeff Rustia, and the whole CPFW team for putting on an amazing week of fashion and culture, and especially to the designers for sharing their beautiful collections with us.

Event LOVE: @CPFW2013 Press Conference
I didn’t know what to expect when I walked into the Museum Room of the Shangri-La Hotel, for the Canada Philippine Fashion Week (CPFW) press conference. I’ll be honest and say that I thought it would be a whole lot of boring fashion talk, that we’ve all heard before but… It was the exact opposite. Instead I found myself going from happy, to inspired, to sad, then back to happy. This is probably the most touching event that I have ever been to. I was so inspired by Jeff Rustia’s story about how Canada Philippine Fashion came to fruition, how it was once just an idea he wrote on a piece of paper, to something that has already caught the attention of people all over the world, and it hasn’t even happened yet. I was moved, and in tears by the story of his late son, and how he continues to keep his son alive, through everything that he does. Ugh, it was beautiful, heartbreaking and inspiring all at the same time.
This is the first Canada Philippine Fashion Week, and it will make it’s fabulous debut on Monday June 10th, and will run until Saturday June 15th, and it just so happens that also during the Philippines’ Independence Day on the 12th June! CPFWis a non-profit organization that’s aimed at showcasing fashion, culture, creativity and artistry of Filipinos in Canada and in the Philippines. This week long event is committed to creating fundraising events that will help children through the Kol Hope Foundation for Children, which will serve as the beneficiary of the inaugural launch of CPFW.
The beautiful Kesiah Papasin
We can look forward to six days of dazzling Filipino fashion, culture, and entertainment, a spectacular array of Filipino performances, film screenings, live music, a series of events happening in several incredible venues like the Roy Thompson Hall and TIFF Bell Lightbox, and of course fashion shows from top designers from Canada and the Philippines. Sooooo exciting!
