Before you begin a paralyzing Google search, why not take a minute to ask yourself a few questions. What are your travel intentions? Getaway? Explore? Awakening?

The vast majority of us don’t take time to reflect, slow down, or figure out what matters. What’s truly important. We rarely ask ourselves, what do I long for? Travel, like most things in life, is prescriptive; search, pack, go.

Let’s face it, we all need a break from a world that consistently demands more of us. Yet, do we ask ourselves what we really want? Can we craft experiences to elevate our lives? I say yes and believe travel is the ideal classroom for self-discovery. A time for creative inspiration, or the perfect opportunity to discover a new path, purpose, or passion. It’s leaving routines back home and traveling in the moment; consciously. It’s mindful travel. Traveling from the inside out without being consumptively led.

Exploratory Questions to Ask Yourself

1. Do you need a getaway? Maybe ask yourself what you want to get away from.
2. Are you eager to explore a new place?

• Has life become dull and you’re looking to fill the void using travel?
• Do you need inspiration for a new creative project?
• Is it personal? Are you feeling stuck in your marriage, career, or family situation and need time away to reevaluate things?

3. Are you traveling to reconnect with a friend or partner? A desire that helps you realize life has become a big distraction, and you’re feeling very disconnected from loved ones, or even more important, from yourself?

The external trappings of travel — food, shopping, accommodations — easily distract us. Yet, without an intended focus and time for stillness, self-observation, and reflection, travel is just another hamster wheel in a gorgeous setting. Yes, the external stuff is great, but it shouldn’t be the sole focus.

What If You Could  

1. Return home with a new inner-understanding to help you realize what you’re running from, what you feel is missing?
2. While away, you come into a full awareness that your dream job has become a nightmare. A realization that’s difficult to see when you are deep in the routines of daily hustle. Now that you know…
