Review: Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drink of H20 Hydrating Boost

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drink of H20 Hydrating Boost ($47 CDN) is a new lightweight gel facial moisturizer that is water-based, packed with marine antioxidants as well as free of phthalates, mineral oil, sodium lauryl sulfates, gluten and parabens!!!

The first time I tried a gel moisturizer was two years ago when I was in Hong Kong. I remember being enthralled with the rose scent and wishing  thatI could have re-purchased the product when it finally finished, but I was NOT willing to pay exorbitant customs charges and could not find a local supplier ☹

A few weeks back, when I saw an advertisement for Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drink of H20 Hydrating Boost on the Tarte website, I was hyped to learn it would be available in the Canadian market soon, because I couldn’t wait to test out this gel moisturizer.  Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drink of H20 Hydrating Boost was released alongside a line of other skincare (including SPF and a cleansing gel) as well as make-up products and brushes. The packaging for these items is super cute – gold embossing on turquoise, pink and purple!

The moisturizer comes in a jar, which I prefer, since I can use as much as I need. However, be mindful not to leave lidded products open for too long as this usually compromises on their quality. The moisturizer is thick, clear and has a strong floral (lavender) fragrance.

Once I applied the gel onto my freshly washed and toned face, I noticed that it felt very refreshing and hydrating. It also absorbed quickly and easily into my skin.

I had no issues applying my regular makeup routine on top of this moisturizer although I did find that I looked “shinier” (the moisturizer I was using prior is advertised to reduce pores and sebum flow, and to be anti-shine and mattifying). I also used this as a PM moisturizer and found that my skin remained hydrated throughout the night.

Although I am not sure I will disregard all moisturizers I have used before (nor can I say that I will refrain from trying new products on the market), I can safely say that since I’ve been re-introduced to the world of gel moisturizers, I don’t know if I could return back to cream moisturizers. Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drink of H20 Hydrating Boost really provides a boost of hydration to my skin and feels refreshing and light. Not to mention, this gel is packed with anti-oxidants.

Currently, Rainforest of the Sea Drink Of H2O Hydrating Boost is only available either at Tarte.com, Sephora stores, or on Sephora.com

If you’ve had experience with this product, please share your thoughts.

End Your Dry Skin Problems With These Simple Solutions

Skincare is big business. There are so many ways the skin can let us down. It can get greasy, itchy, red, or dry. And all of that can occur in the same month! This is why there are so many great skincare products out there right now. Nobody wants to suffer the embarrassment of problem skin. After all, the flawless look is so hot right now.

When you suffer greasy skin that is prone to breakouts, there is a temptation to over-treat it. Most oily skin problems on the face occur because of hormone changes. A change in diet or some hormone treatments from your doctor may help you in this case. Using strong pimple creams will simply dry out the skin. And if your skin is no longer in its teenage years, you could be damaging it.

When skin has dried out, it’s important to rehydrate quickly. The longer it stays dry, the more damage can occur. It is more prone to burning in the sun and wind. It may flake and crack, causing sores and even infections. Then you’ll be left with redness and itching on top of everything else. Start by upping your water intake and reducing your use of water on the skin affected.

You should use a moisturizing cleanser with a soft cosmetic pad. Then try to tone with something that is alcohol-free, like a micellar water. Cut down on the foundations that contain blemish balms unless they are designed for sensitive skin. As the irritation reduces, consider adding a gentle facial scrub to your weekly skincare routine. This will remove the dead, flaky skin cells and let the healthier cells breathe.

Dry skin can be a problem on the delicate lip area too. Only three skin layers deep, lips are vulnerable to chapping from the sun and the wind. Use something like a NYX soft matte lip cream rather than a stronger lip gloss that can sting and irritate. Be sure to dab-dry the area with a clean towel when you brush and floss. This will prevent any toothpaste or whitening treatment residue from upsetting your lip area.

Feet suffer from dryness more than most other parts of the body. In the summer you want your feet to look silky soft in your sandals. Don’t be so shy you avoid a pedicure, though. These can be very helpful when it comes to restoring the balance of your skin, especially around the toes. At home, you can soak them in an oil based bath. When they are dry, gently buff away the dead skin cells. Moisturize daily for the best results.

Gorgeous legs are always well moisturised. These are the best parts of your body to apply oil-based moisture. Baby oil has long been popular but use it sparingly to avoid an excess greasiness. Legs often dry out if we shave, so avoid this if you are prone to dry skin. Stay safe in the sun to avoid flare-ups of dryness or burning. Love your skin.

My Grandma and I both love @GarnierCan Clean+ Products

    Grandma testing out Garnier products

My grandma was looking for skincare products. She doesn’t use a lot of make up ever but she is very serious about her skincare ritual!  Grandma is 86 but has really beautiful skin because she has taken great care of it her whole life. She recently tested out some new products with me from Garnier. My grandma and I are both born in the year of the Rat. We both love beauty rituals and making people feel comfortable. I am glad I could share this Garnier experience with her!

The new Garnier Clean+ has amazing products!  Big thanks from our friends at Garnier for sending these  for a sneak peek.

The stand out product for me is the Garnier 5 Second Perfect Blur – a smoothing and perfecting primer with optical effect. 5sec Perfect Blur takes 5 seconds to apply and improves the look of your skin immediately.

Screen Shot 2014-01-28 at 6.28.04 PMCan’t wait to test out the other 2 products. The Smoothing Cream Cleanser and Cleansing oil is for DRY skin so I will definitely need to use this on my legs, arms and elbow areas. It is ideal to use a creamy cleanser during the winter and a gel based on it in the summer.

Here is my grandma and I with my little cousins messing about in the back!

Look for new Garnier Clean + products next time you are in the drugstore!

    Dry Skin Rescue @SebamedUSA

Winter dry skin is the worst!  The scaly snake skin legs occur when I am too lazy to lotion after a shower and it freaks me out!  If you need a great lotion, try Sebamed Anti-Dry Hydration Lotion to save your skin this winter.  I remember the logo of Sebamed from my childhood and you know how much I love Retro!  So here is a cool throwback beauty secret you may have forgotten. Sebamed is a German skincare company established by Heinz Maurer in 1957.

    Snow Ready

Phytosteroles, shea butter and other plant-derived lipids as well as a moisturizing complex with polysaccharides extracted from potato starch care for, smooth and soothe the skin.

The lotion is absorbed quickly and completely, leaving no trace of stickiness. The pH value of 5.5 protects the skin’s natural protective acid mantle against dehydration and irritants. In a three-week dermatological test, the care lotion improved the moisture content of dry skin by 26% even 10 hours after the last application and despite interim washing.

Keeping warm and using Sebamed since ’84.

For all day hydration and a brand that I remembered using all my life – Try Sebamed!
