Woman – The New Fragrance from Donna Karan @DKWoman @HarpersBazaarUS

Harper’s Bazaar and Donna Karan threw a classy event for New York based beauty bloggers on Monday night on the 44th Floor of Hearst. It was one of the best beauty events I have attended. A combination of a great crowd, very zen atmosphere and invaluable content made this evening worth it. We had a great time networking and talking to fellow bloggers and more importantly, perfume fanatics.

    Me and the girls

The launch of Donna Karan’s newest fragrance Woman started with an intimate conversation with Trudi Loren (Estee Lauder) and Stephanie Johnson (City Winery), moderated by Avril Graham (Harper’s Bazaar). They took us through a journey of the creation of this perfume as well as the three models used in the campaign: Karolina Kurkova, Liya Kebede & Christy Turlington – supermodels, mothers & philanthropists.

It was a beautiful event and despite the rain, it was a full house of happy bloggers.

Must be the great wine pairing, petite amuse-bouche and scents swirling about.

My favorite pairing: Deseado from Familla Schroeder with Roasted Tomato and Winter Melon Crostini for Orange Blossom

This evening was about pairing wines with fragrance notes and learning how to smell and taste. WOMAN is like nothing I have smelled before and a welcomed addition to my perfume wardrobe.
The entire team from chemist to bottle design to perfumer were women. When you smell this, it is a cultural statement and manifestation of the strength and softness of a woman. The bottle for WOMAN was designed by architect Zaha Hadid.

    Stunning.
Smoked Corn Coquette with Ramey (Chardonnay 2009) paired with Sandalwood and Porcini mushroom butter tart with L’Angevin (Pinot Noir 2009) paired with Donna Karan WOMAN

A fragrance created for women, by women, to celebrate the inspirational, multifaceted women among us: sensual and nurturing mothers, wives, lovers, and friends. A woman is not one thing or another, but everything all at once. Whatever age or race, women are beautiful, embracing their femininity with conviction. The creamy, key notes of orange blossom, sandalwood, and Haitian vetiver express the softness and strength of a woman, exemplifying heart, soul, and beauty—discover the fragrance inspired by all that a woman is.

    Notes:
    Orange Blossom, Sandalwood, Haitian Vetiver.
    Style:
    Feminine. Powerful. Passionate.

It is available now for $115 at Sephora or ShopBazaar.com

Coming Up: @VillageVoice #BKPour Craft Beer Fest

Wow, time flies. It’s already time for Village Voice’s Brooklyn Pour! I covered it last year and had a ball while tantalizing my taste buds and learning a ton about beer. It literally changed my life (as related to beer).

    Before Brooklyn Pour
Me: I’ll take a Corona with a lime

    After Brooklyn Pour
Me: What kind of IPA (that’s Indian Pale Ale) do you have…or maybe I’ll go for a Belgian wheat ale…

In case you don’t know what BK Pour is all about, it’s a craft beer festival featuring 60 brewers with over 100 beers to taste. It’s held at the historic, and absolutely breathtaking Hanson Place in downtown  Brooklyn. This year, BK Pour will give attendees the opportunity to amp up their beer knowledge while they sip, offering three Beer Talks and Demos per session–because knowing about what you’re drinking is way sexier than ignorant consumption.

There will also be an outdoor food court with delicious eats that will make you wish you had an extra stomach on hand!

BK Pour isn’t only about the booze, though–proceeds from the event are going to BK Pour’s charitable partner, Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition (BARC), a nonprofit organization looking to provide a safe haven for abandoned animals and to find permanent loving homes for them.

VIP tickets for Session 1 have already sold out and I’m sure the remaining tickets will be gone soon, so don’t procrastinate if you want to attend!

    See you there!

    Event LOVE: @MassimoDutti Store Opening

“The Massimo Dutti woman aims for a style that is personal, while adding touches of fashion trends set on international catwalks.”

On Thursday night we celebrated the grand opening of Massiom Dutti in Toronto at the Eaton Centre.  This is the first-ever Massimo Dutti North American store, and let me tell you, as soon as you walk in, you instantly get this STRONG desire to shop! The clothing is fantastic of course, but I just love how the store is set up; it’s beautifully decorated, everything from the lighting and furniture to the way that the clothing is displayed. It’s just lovely in there. I got a lovely and informative tour of the store and everything Massimo Dutti from Aaron, during which I found so many pieces that MUST be mine, come rain or shine.

Look for Aaron when you go, he knows everything about Massimo Dutti, and he’s super friendly 🙂

    Robyn and Tamika 🙂

    Zoo Lates in London @zsllondonzoo

Of the many summer festivities available in London town, I think one of the most interesting is this thing called ‘Zoo Lates‘ at the London Zoo in Camden.

Every Friday you can creep in and visit all the animals that come out at night. It’s an 18+ event where you can attend a silent concert (to avoid disturbing the animals that need to go to bed) and drink and eat all you want at a variety of shops hanging out on site.

You can even get kangaroo hot dogs or get your face painted. Or just be straight out silly because looking at weird animals somehow gets a lot more interesting when you’ve got some drinks in you and there aren’t any crying babies around. Also, I tried my first plastic cup of Pimms! This cranberry liqueur mixed with fruits and lemonade. I’m not really a fan. It must be an acquired taste.

There’s only a few weeks left, so book your tickets ASAP and join in on the fun!

    Xoxo, @missamandachen

    Heidi Gardner @CreatureCouture Fall Preview

Last week I attended the fall preview for Heidi Gardner Creature Couture at Dopo Teatro in NYC. Guests sipped cocktail and nibbled on hors d’oeuvres at the private event where Heidi’s latest jewelry line was showcased.

The pieces were detailed, brass and silver creatures and skulls from a high-fashion nightmare. Stones shimmered from their eye sockets, or in some cases they had empty gazes.

I love, love all of these pieces. There were so delightfully twisted and wicked.

    Prices range from $120 -$4,800.

This actually isn’t a ring. It’s a pendant for a necklace, but I just set it atop my finger because I thought it looked cool there. 🙂

    Rings and things

Enjoyed meeting Heidi. She had a ton of energy!

Heidi shows off her jewels. Love that ring!
