INGLOT – How to get the looks from Baja East, Orla Kiely, and more!
Writing to share a breakdown of the NYFW makeup and nails looks created by INGLOT for the SS17 season – Including Baja East, Orla Kiely, Michael Costello and Kim Shui.
· WHO: Baja East
· THE VIBE: Glam Guns & Roses.
· HOW TO GET THE LOOK: “The concept is very rock’n’roll, with a messy, grungy feel but still fashion forward,” says lead nail artist Naomi Yasuda for INGLOT. “The models have messy hair and heavy, smudgy eye makeup. So for nails I wanted to follow with a really cool grunge look.”
· THE KIT: “I used an oily grey-greenish color (INGLOT O2M Breathable Nail Enamel in #649) as a base for the girls, then did a black ombre (with INGLOT o2M Breathable Nail Enamel #692) – starting at the cuticle with black and the tip is green (INGLOT Nail Enamel #988 and #987). The men’s nails are going to have a clear nail (o2m Breathable Base) with black ombre coming from the cuticle (with INGLOT o2M Breathable Nail Enamel #692). The reason why I did it from the cuticle is because it looks somewhat dirty to go along with the theme but in a fashionable, edgy way.”
· WHO: Orla Kiely
· THE VIBE: A Rose-Kissed English Prairie Girl
· HOW TO GET THE LOOK: “The girl this season was inspired by an English prairie girl. There is a rosy kiss on the eyelid, but with a slight smoldering of dark taupes to add a mystery to her,” said,” said Stevie Huynh, lead makeup artist for INGLOT.
· THE KIT: Huynh used INGLOT products in unconventional ways (liquid blush on lips, blush on lids and brow gel on lashes) to achieve a uniquely cohesive, blended look.He used taupe-y contour shades, including Freedom System Eye Shadow Matte #305 from INGLOT’s new What A Spice! Collection ($7), to define and sculpt the eye socket, with an emphasis on smoking out the bottom lash line. He used dark brown Freedom System Eye Shadow Matte #299 ($7) to define the top lash line and a petal rose blush, Freedom System Blush #29, to fill in the eyelid and blend into the crease, making sure that there were no hard lines.
Huynh swiped INGLOT’s new Brow Shaping Mascara on lashes for understated definition. To finish the look, Huynh added AMC Liquid Face Blush #93 ($15) as color on the lips, to create a pale pink pout.
· WHO: Michael Costello
· THE VIBE: Midnight at the Botanical Bash
· HOW TO GET THE LOOK: “Michael stressed to us a passion for each model’s individual beauty, and challenged us to exude that personality through makeup,” said Edward Cruz, lead makeup artist for INGLOT. “We chose complexion products that are applicable to every skin tone. INGLOT’s high pigment formulations are made to be layered, which allowed us to create a high-intensity look with a seemingly effortless, blended aesthetic.”
· THE KIT: Cruz created non-traditional, blended-out gold and berry eyes. He used Freedom System Eye Shadow Matte #296 and #299 from INGLOT’s new What A Spice! Collection ($7 each) as the base, and layered on deep gold and berry sparkle using AMC Pure Pigment Eye Shadow #81 and #24 ($16 each). Cruz layered matte, cranberry Lipstick Matte #438 ($15) with AMC Lip Paint #58 ($14) to create an opaque, berry ombre lip.
· WHO: Kim Shui
· THE VIBE: “The entire look projects confidence,” said Gianpaolo Ceciliato, lead makeup artist sponsored by INGLOT at Kim Shui. To start, each complexion is perfect, clean and dewy and the lip is nude – But from there, everything is personalized. We created one stand out feature per model: A strong brow, a colored or ombre brow, a bright lip, a black lip, a pop of color on eyes, or clean eyes with colored wing tips. Like every woman and her clothes, it tells a very personalized story.”
· HOW TO GET THE LOOK: “Only INGLOT’s extensive color range could give us so much freedom and variety. I love the AMC Eyeliner Gel and Freedom System Rainbow Eye Shadow for creating the different looks. We also went bold on nails, with INGLOT’s O2M Breathable Nail Enamel. The enamel allows water and oxygen to pass through, keeping the models nails in good condition.”

Sarah Hyland – 2016 Teen Choice Awards – Allan Avendano
Still obsessing over actress Sarah Hyland’s look from the 2016 Teen Choice Awards? Take cue from the style icon and recreate her glowing look for your back to school beauty routine thanks to these tips from Sarah’s
makeup artist Allan Avendaño
INSPIRATION: “I’m often asked what my inspiration is for looks I create on Sarah but for these awards Sarah was the inspiration. After working with her for 6 years, it’s so easy to know what she would be into! She’s so fun to create with. She has a chic sense of fashion but definitely won’t stick with one look when it comes to makeup. Life’s too short not to have fun,” says Allan. “We both looked at the blue and red dress she chose for the Teen Choice Awards and we wanted to bring that blue color to her eyes. We based the whole makeup look on perfect skin and how we could make that blue hue the star without competing with the dress. We played around and realized that glowing skin with a subtle blue liner – that is unexpectedly placed on the outer half of the bottom lash line – would be a fun twist to the usual colored liner look.”
GET THE LOOK – Here is Allan’s step-by-step breakdown:
First Step – Skin Prep:
· Since skin is always an important part of every look, I like to make sure the skin is given its proper prep and care. I used the Bioré Self Heating One Minute Mask with Natural Charcoal on Sarah before anything else.
· I wet her skin, massaged the product onto her face and let it sit for one minute. I then rinsed it off creating a clean, tingly, smooth and refreshed complexion.
· The natural charcoal [in the mask] is activated when it comes in contact with water and heats up in an instant, drawing out impurities and deep down dirt and oil from the pores leaving a brighter complexion.
· I followed up with a light moisturizer for the perfect makeup application canvas.
Next – Eyes:
· While letting the skin settle, I began to work with the eyes. I first primed her eyes with Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Color in Rosegold.
· I then added some depth to her eyes with the Dior Eyeshadow Palette in Amber Nuit using the darkest Bronze shade in the crease.
· To create the bottom winged liner, I used Estee Edit’s Metallishadow Cream + Powder in Wild Cosmos. Next, I used a flat liner brush to apply the cream from the center of the bottom lash line going toward the outer corners of her eyes, gradually getting thicker as I brought the wing outward. I used the same liner brush to apply the metallic blue powder to give it a pop.
· I followed with two coats of Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara to the top and bottom lashes.
· I then applied Ardell Lashes in Demi Wispies to add medium individual lashes to form more fullness.
· For her brows, I used Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer Crayon in Soft Brown.
Followed by – Face:
· I started with Hourglass Cosmetics Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick and applied it with a dry firm blush brush to give her sheer coverage.
· I followed with Dior Contour Stick in 002 to give her cheekbones a bit of definition.
· I then applied Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick in Es Vedra to the apples of her cheeks and buffed it out with a Beauty Blender for a subtle pop of coral.
· To highlight her skin, I used Hourglass Cosmetics Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in Brilliant on all the high points of her face.
Finish with – Lips:
· We lined her lips with Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Liner in Iconic Nude and then applied MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in Half & Half to complete the look.
More about Bioré Self Heating One Minute Mask ($7.99): In just one minute, this thermal mask warms to open pores, draws out and dissolves 2.5 times more dirt, oil, and surface toxins than a basic cleanser, and rinses them clean away with an invigorating cooling sensation without stripping the skin. Infused with natural charcoal, this breakthrough mask melts dirt and oil better than the leading competitive mask. So clean your pores from the dirt, oil and makeup of the past and clear the problem.
