October is #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 1 in 8 women the U.S and 1 in 9 in Canada will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. It’s a terrible disease that affects the lives of those diagnosed, as well as their friends and families. This is the month that we really shine a light on breast cancer, the survivors, fighters, and victims, and the life-saving research that is taking place to fight it.
Companies across the country are donating proceeds from the purchase certain products toward breast cancer research. I wanted to highlight some of my favorite products:

Riedel Stemless Wine Glasses: 15% of all proceeds from these glasses to the support of breast cancer survivors
essie Breast Cancer Color Collection: A portion of the proceeds from the essie breast cancer awareness collection will be donated to Living Beyond Breast Cancer
Ellie Shoes: 100% of proceeds will be donated to National Breast Cancer Coalition
The North Face – The North Face will make an annual donation to Boarding For Breast Cancer, a non-profit, education awareness foundation, to help support their journey to educate and inspire young adults
Movado Watch: Special Edition Breast Cancer Research Foundation – Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation
Graphic Tee from Footlocker – $5 goes to the American Cancer Society
Bicycle Playing Cards – $.15 from each deck of cards will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation
Cuisinart Pink Series Blender – By purchasing you are helping to fund the Breast Cancer Research Foundation
Betsey Johnson “I’m a Survivor” Charm Bracelet – A portion of the proceeds are donated to Fashion Targets Breast Cancer
Supporting companies that donate proceeds from the purchase of their products to various breast cancer organizations is a great way to help the cause. A more direct way to get involved is to join one of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks that are going on around the country (U.S.) throughout the month of October.I will be walking in the Making Strides walk at Jones Beach on Long Island, NY on October 21. I’d love your support in my effort to raise funds for the walk. Please visit my Making Strides homepage if you’d like to donate (and share with a friend!).

Know Your Nails: Nail Kandy
I LOVE the look of long beautiful nails but I’m tired of striping my nails by getting fakes! That’s why I spoke my dear friend Kate the other day about her nail creations!
Who: Kate Bland – Creator of Nail Kandy www.nailkandy.etsy.com
Created: June, 2010
Why: Fed up and disappointed by the selection of nail art available at the nail salon she was going to, Kate decided to do nail art herself. Having stocked up on a large amount of supplies she started making and selling one of a kind hand painted glue-on nails, which are very popular in Asia.
Cost range: Between $10 and $30, depending. She has also started to sell nail art supplies (not created by Kate), that will probably be in the $1 to $10 range.
Contest: Between June 24th, 2011 and July 24th, 2011 Kate is having a giveaway on her nail art blog, www.nailkandy.tumblr.com
She is giving away a large selection of nail art supplies as well as two sets of “blank” nails (the ones she paints on) so that the winner can create their own set of of Nail Kandy nails. In order to enter, you must be following the blog and re-blog about the giveaway. All of the rules can be found here: http://bit.ly/NKgiveaway
Happy Nails, happy gal. That’s what I think anyway. Here are the ones Kate did for me for my recent 80’s music video!
xoxo,
Kaycee
