    Belts Save Pets From Kill Shelters

    C4 Belts, the stylish, earth-friendly belt company that gives back, is excited to collaborate with Best Friends Animal Society to raise funding and awareness for “C4 Best Friends Month” in March.  Starting March 1, 2016, the brand will launch a fundraising campaign titled “Save Our Furry Friends” to honor pets nationwide and raise funds for Best Friends Animal Society, the only national animal welfare organization focused exclusively on ending the killing of animals in America’s shelters.  C4 will donate up to $14 with each belt purchased in March.  To kick off the campaign, C4 will launch their limited edition pet-inspired belt collection complete with paw-print designs, Best Friends orange and black logos and fashionable chevron prints.

    C4 stands for Choose your Color, Choose your Cause.  It is C4’s goal to provide a unique shopping experience to individual thinkers who will leave looking cool on the outside and feeling good on the inside.  C4 partners with four charities each year that help the world in vastly different ways. With each online purchase, the company donates $1 per belt to the customer’s choice of causes.  Best Friends Animal Society is among C4’s 2016 charity organizations. During the month of March 2016, each time a fan purchases a C4 belt and chooses Best Friends Animal Society as their cause, C4 will triple their standard donation to $3.  If a customer purchases a belt from the limited edition Best Friends collection, C4 will donate $10, enough to microchip ID a dog or cat.

    To participate via social media, supporters can post a picture with their pet, wearing their new C4 belt and tag #C4BestFriends and C4 will donate an additional $1 to Best Friends Animal Society.

    Best Friends runs the nation’s largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals, as well as lifesaving programs across the country.  Since its founding in 1984, Best Friends has helped reduce the number of animals killed in shelters nationwide from 17 million per year to about 4 million.

    Celebrate Pi Day with Viki’s Granola

    For those of us that have a sweet tooth, children enrolled in math class or just love a good reason to celebrate,National Pi Day is Monday, March 14th! This day in history celebrates the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, 3.14 – but what better way to celebrate an ironic-named holiday than to share in a yummy pie recipe, too!

    As you’re working on upcoming recipe/food stories, I wanted to pass along a delicious (and healthy!) pie recipe from the kitchen of Viki Sater, founder of Viki’s Granola. Viki is a huge proponent of finding ways to make natural ingredients into delicious and mouthwatering dishes, and the below berry pie recipe is a PERFECT way to ring in Pi Day –or any day for that matter!

    Viki’s Granola Mixed Berry Crisp

    Topping Ingredients:
    •    ¾ cups all-purpose flour
    •    ½ cup (packed) light brown sugar
    •    1 cup Viki’s blueberry almond granola 
    •    1 stick unsalted butter
    Filling Ingredients:
    •    4 cups frozen mixed berries (don’t thaw)
    •    1/3 cup of sugar
    •    1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
    Directions: 
    •    Preheat oven to 375oF.
    •    Lightly butter oven safe ceramic bowl.
    •    Place topping ingredients into a bowl, working the butter into the granola mixture. Once complete, set aside.
    •    Place filling ingredients into a large bowl and mix thoroughly.
    •    Pour the berry mixture into the buttered ceramic bowl.
    •    Pour granola mixture evenly on top of the berries.
    •    Bake for 40 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit juices are bubbling.
    •    Let it rest for 15 minutes before serving.
