Smartly Designed Grooming Kit @KaufmannMerc
They say a dog is a man’s best friend. Return the favor by treating your favorite companion to Kaufmann Mercantile’s Stainless Steel & Beech Wood Dog Grooming Kit. Intended for everyday use, our beechwood comb features wide teeth to gently detangle and de-mat unruly fur. Periodically use the stainless steel scissors to precisely trim delicate areas around your pooch’s paws and ears. For short or long-haired dogs, pamper your pet with this specially designed grooming kit. Also see our grooming kit for cats.
Production & Design
This dog care set was made in Maniago, Italy, a city with a history of steel blade production dating back to the medieval 1500s. Due to their proximity to Venice, the old blacksmiths of Maniago were permitted to use the streams to cool and cut their steel during tool production.
The company that produced and designed this grooming kit was founded in 1912, specializing in farming tools. In 1952, with four generations of tool making under its belt, the company decided to hone its focus solely on knives for the home kitchen and professional butchery.
Since then, the company continues to innovate and improve its products. Recent innovations include knives fitted with “paperstone” handles made of post-consumer waste paper and recycled cardboard “booklet” boxes to replace the bulky knife stand and messy knife drawer. The pet care line is the first foray outside of food preparation and serving tools.

When the weather looks like this outside, Jacob is sleeping! He hibernates until at least spring, sleeping over 20 hours a day, playing with his stuffed toys and taking short walks bundled up like Ralphie from Christmas Story. Inside fleece, outer waterproof jacket, boots. Yup!

Cold Days, Hot Tea and Good Books
My formula for cold winter days is cuddling with Jacob with some lemon tea and reading a good book! We dream about California, the sun and the beach. We read and read and hug and hug. Winter seems to go by faster but we are counting the days. He is so bundled up and PAWS balloon booties are a must in NYC.
Here are some dog books we have been reading lately and highly recommend:
1. Ambassador Dogs by Lisa Loeb
Dogs are ambassadors to the world and our own local communities. They come to serve and love us as only they know how. Accompanied by 175 color images, discover the remarkable connection between dogs and humans through the inspiring stories of 24 dogs and the owners whose lives they have made better. Meet Paddington, the official greeter at Thorncroft Equestrian Center, and Cody, a search and rescue dog. Learn the story behind Pals for Life, an organization that provides therapy animal visits, and Francisvale, a safe haven for abandoned dogs. The stories range from service dogs that make life easier for those in need to much-loved household pets that offer love and companionship each day for family members. Dog lovers everywhere will delight in these wonderfully witty and entertaining stories.
2. Inside of a Dog – Alexandra Horowitz
The answers will surprise and delight you as Alexandra Horowitz, a cognitive scientist, explains how dogs perceive their daily worlds, each other, and that other quirky animal, the human. Horowitz introduces the reader to dogs’ perceptual and cognitive abilities and then draws a picture of what it might be like to be a dog. What’s it like to be able to smell not just every bit of open food in the house but also to smell sadness in humans, or even the passage of time? How does a tiny dog manage to play successfully with a Great Dane? What is it like to hear the bodily vibrations of insects or the hum of a fluorescent light? Why must a person on a bicycle be chased? What’s it like to use your mouth as a hand? In short, what is it like for a dog to experience life from two feet off the ground, amidst the smells of the sidewalk, gazing at our ankles or knees?
3. Help Your Shy Dog – Deborah Wood
Fifteen to twenty percent of dogs are born with a tendency towards introversion and fearfulness, leading to behaviors like uncontrolled submissive urination, fear-aggression, and inability to bond with humans. With understanding and the right training, fearful dogs need not be condemned as bad pets; rather, they can become some of the happiest and most deeply bonded dogs around the epitome of great pets.

3 New Cold Weather Dog Treats @ilovemyk10 @preschoice
The weather outside is frightful! I mean it isn’t THAT cold compared to seasonal norms but it is cold enough for you to say brrr and cut your walks short and make sure your naps are long. We are all in hoodies to stay cozy… With the change in weather, here are a few treats that can help you and your dog make it to the muddy spring!
1. K10+ Calming Formula – You mix this with water! Similar to EmergenC for humans, this is a supplement to calm your dog (cabin fever anyone!!) of any anxiety. This is great for extended nap time, before unfamiliar guests come over, travel and just to relax your dog. It comes in small little packets and they are easy to use. Just open and put into the water.
I put 1 packet in this water bowl. You can see the water turns a lemony yellow with bits floating. My dog drank it no problem… Vitamin Water for Dogs!
K-10+ is a line of soluble water vitamins where different formulas address various purposes in dog health – This one is calming but there are also ones for senior dogs, multivitamins and Glucosamine.
2. Betsy Farms Natural Chicken Jerky – Betsy Farms™ offers a line of high-quality jerky recipe treats that dogs love. Each product is made in the U.S.A. with wholesome ingredients sourced in America (all poultry is raised in the U.S.A.). The delicious treats are available in three varieties, including chicken, duck and turkey. Each product is made with real meat and provides protein that all dogs need. Theline is available exclusively at Sam’s Club and Walmart.
*Chicken, Barley, Tapioca, Chicken Liver, Vegetable Glycerin, Pea Protein, Corn Protein Concentrate, Dried Whey, Poultry Fat, Potassium Sorbate (preservative), Salt, Lactic Acid, Hickory Smoke Flavor, Mixed Tocopherols (preservative), Rosemary Extract, Colored With Annatto Extract”
As you all know, Jacob is really picky with treats and he LOVED the Betsey Farms Natural Jerky. It is nice to have a hearty treat during the winter instead of a cold dry dog biscuit! They don’t I give one of these to him before bed and it sends him right off to puppy dreamland.
3. PC Nutrition First Dog Chicken Strips for Heart & Eyes – My mom brought these for Jacob on her last trip and they have lasted a long time! You can get it at any Superstore or Loblaws. They are real chicken strips and made in Thailand. There are only 3 ingredients: Chicken, Vitamin A Acetate, L-Carnitine. The shape of these look just like a piece of chicken and none of the pieces are identical so I know they are not mass produced. Jacob loves these too!
Excuse the slobber!
Treat taste testing is exhausting – Now time to hibernate until spring!
