Sentimental Sunday: How To Spend The Long Weekend Alone

Whether you’re celebrating July 1st or July 4th, I hope you’re enjoying your long weekend with great company. But I’m sure that not everyone gets to run out of the city and chill at the cottage. If you’re like Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson (or Yvonne Kai, soldiering it out in NYC) and spending an awesome weekend apart from your boo, here are some ways to deal:

    1. Host A Party: To keep your mind away from your personal life, busy yourself as the host for your family or friends. It keeps the focus away from you and you get to surround yourself around people you love.

    2. Get Some Fresh Air: Whatever you do, don’t stay home. Take a walk and enjoy the great weather this weekend and talk to some strangers! Who knows, you might meet your next best friend.

    3. Grab A Bite: Take yourself out of the ‘cooking for two’ mentality and indulge in some street food! Who cares about getting bloated, no one (important) is going to see it!

    4. Do Some Exercise: Spend some time working on yourself — although you might not have chosen to have all this space, make the best of it and give yourself some TLC. You’ll also feel super sexy when you reunite with your special someone!

The trick isn’t to make yourself so busy you can’t think about your lover. You end up burning out and all you end up thinking about is what you could have done instead of the mindless activities you busied yourself with all weekend. Take some time to yourself for a change and embrace being alone. It’s not all that bad!

How would you spend the long weekend alone?

Sigma Beauty NEW Dare Bare Flare Shadow Palettes

During IMATS LA, @Sigma_Beauty gave away sample eyeshadow palettes from their new eyeshadow palettes collection, Dare, Bare, and Flare. The sample palette I received at IMATS had one color from each palette: Reveal from the Dare palette, Act from the Bare palette, and Oversee from the Flare palette.

Reveal, Act, and Oversee (left to right)

All colors basically describe each palette it comes in. I was pretty surprised to find that all three colors were pretty pigmented and showed up well over some eye primer. The shadows in this palette give you a satin finish but their large, retail palettes come in satin and matte shadows. I liked that they could be used dry or wet depending on how opaque you want it to be. Each palette has eight colors that let you go from day to night and include a double-sided Short Shader brush and Small Tapered Blending brush.

Just wanted to test out the colors really quick and this is what I came up with. Act all over the lid, Oversee on the outer corner and lower lashes, and Reveal over the liner towards the outer corner. The colors aren’t super intense because I didn’t want to overdo it since I was just going to a simple dinner with my family tonight but the colors are pretty.

From trying colors at their booth, the lighter, matte colors didn’t really show up as much as the satiny ones. I do like the colors for the most part that come in the palettes although there isn’t too much variety in the bold color department. I’m guessing their selection will grow over time and as their fan base grows. I kind of wish they would put more colors into the palettes rather than so many bland colors. I feel like I have a gazillion taupes, browns, and beiges whether in single pans or in palettes it would be nice to not have half the palette be so “vanilla.”

This is definitely a combo of colors I’m considering wearing for 4th of July 🙂 Make sure you check out Sigma’s palettes!

The lady who threw the event! Annie Greenberg of Lucky Magazine

Fellow Bloggers!I ventured down to the East side for the Lucky Magazine Summer Jam blogger event 🙂  There were lots of bloggers, the Bumby’s and tons of food. It was really nice to connect faces to email addresses and Twitter handles.  Here are some photos. Enjoy… Can’t wait for the next one.

The Bumby’s give you honest fashion appraisals on vintage typewriters. They are from Brooklyn so you know they keep it real. I got a 9.0 i’m happy with that. This duo is awesome for parties and to shake up some people. You know, the kind that worries so much about how they are perceived by others.
