Holiday Lips: No Time to Be Shy
The holidays are no time to be shy about lip color, and to me they mean it’s time to break out the reds and berries. If you are a neutral-gloss-wearing type who never wears a strong color on your mouth, now’s the time to upgrade to muted red or a berry stain. If, on the other hand, your makeup bag is already bursting with saturated these colors, now is the time of year to go full-on, especially at night and especially for parties, or to even deepen your shades with a bit of black.
My all-time favorite red is Giorgio Armani Rouge d’Armani #400 (not 401 as inexplicably recommended by Lucky in their September 2010 red lipstick piece – it’s way too orange).
A close second and quite an unsung hero among reds is NARS’s Red Lizard. While everyone is falling all over themselves over Lancome’s Absolute Rouge, NARS’s Jungle Red and MAC’s Russian Red, Red Lizard is an incredibly flattering shade and a much truer, richer red than these, although its texture is just a tad dry. Further along the glossy spectrum, one product stands alone: Chanel’s Dragon Satin Lip Lacquer. Applied generously with the wand, it’s rich, saturated and striking. Patted down with your finger or a tissue it’s muted more like a stain. Of course, my old standby – a lifesaver for on-the-subway-on-the-way-to-the-party touchups is NARS’s Cruella Velvet Matte Lip Pencil.
So quick and so easy, I often wear it during the day. If you have a darker complexion or are a woman of color, MAC’s Ruby Woo will be a knockout on you. For fairer-skinned among us, this color looks clownish, but I have literally stopped Asian and African American women on the street and asked them what they are wearing and often this is the color.Chanel’s Lune Rousse. As a member of the Rouge Coco line, its texture couldn’t be more perfect, it feels like a dream going on and lasts seemingly forever. Despite all the press about Ballet Russe (it has seemed to show up in every magazine lately), I find it too severe. Other lovely berry shades are MAC’s old standby Diva and Lancome’s Le Rouge Absolu in Merlot.
If you’ve already ventured into red and berry territory and want to turn it up a notch, add a dab of MAC Lipmix in Black to your lipcolor. Lipmix is the next generation following Mattene lipstick in Midnight Media from a couple of years ago that sold out so fast everyone’s heads were spinning. If all this is still too much for you and you still have the urge to leave your lips neutral, I’ll leave you with one idea that I stumbled upon last New Year’s: swipe a bit of sheer orange gloss over your usual lipstick for a festive pop of color
that will go with just about anything but will help your look stand out. My personal favorite – because it’s not too orange-y – is Smashbox’s Alluring. Use it over a neutral pencil, on top of your usual neutral color, or even combined with a stronger color (I use it in the center of my top and bottom lips even over red when I’m going out at night).Happy holidays!*HeyDoYou is for the cute, clever and connected*

Perfect Pout
People always say the brows frame the face and make the look just that much better. Well in my opinion, its the lips that make the statement. The lips are equally important, if not the most, in every look whether day or night. Your lips could be the star of the show or create a soft background for your eyes. Bottom line, no matter what your lips are a big deal so I thought i’d share with you the way I achieve my perfect pout.I start out with smooth lips. After I brush my teeth, while the brush is still moist, I brush my lips lightly so remove dead skin. Using a dry toothbrush can be too harsh for your lips. I also like the way the mintyness on my toothbrush makes my lips feel. After brushing off the dead skin, pat your lips dry with a soft towel and moisturize with a very thin layer of your favorite lip balm. Then using a lip liner, line your lips. If you have smaller lips, line the very outside of your lip line for the illusion of fuller lips. Make sure you line them and shape them well because this is the foundation for your perfect pout. Fill in the rest of your lips to create a canvas for your lipstick. Now apply your lipstick evenly. Be sure that this isn’t a super dry lipstick even if you’re going for a matte look. Dry lipstick may look good when you first apply it but after a while you’ll start seeing it making your lips look cracked.NARS Lipstick $24 (my favorite color is Honolulu Honey)After you apply your lipstick, it’s time to really perfect your lips. A lot of people like to conceal their lips before they put on lip color to get the perfect lip line but I’ve found that as your lip color comes off, so does the concealer since it’s mainly on your lips as well. I like to apply my lipstick then go back and conceal around my lip line with a creamy concealer. Use a creamy concealer instead of a cakey one so you get a smooth, sheer wash. This will also help you erase any mistakes you made while lining your lips or putting on your lipstick.Last but certainly not least, loose powder. Set the concealer around your lips with loose powder. Use a small concealer brush to dust the powder generously making sure the concealer won’t budge. This way when you’re eating or as your lipstick fades throughout the night, your lip line still looks perfect.Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre $52 (my favorite loose powder EVER)This quick trick has never failed me. Even as my lipstick starts to fade throughout the day or as the night goes on, my lips still look fab! No more worries about lip color smearing in the wrong places and feathering past your lip line. The concealer acts like a little barrier preventing color to travel. Now you can be free to eat and drink as you please worry-free (about your lips, that is).*HeyDoYou is for the cute, clever and connected*

(TO) Tattoos of the 10s
Temporary Tattoos are making a come back and I’m not talking about the ones in the bubble gum machines. These tattoos are coming straight off the runway and are very fashionable! This is great for a person who wants to get a tattoo, but is too afraid of the painful ordeal.
The following designers have launched their own lines; Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier, Rodarte and recently added Beyonce (Dereon will release their temporary tattoo line on Nov 1). Prices range from $20 – $90. Would you wear them?*HeyDoYou is for the cute, clever and connected* - Uncategorized
A Fashion Evolution has Begun
Chanel Fall/Winter 2010 campaignThis morning I felt the need to comment on the situation of fashion as it stands right now… and the incredible places fashion is going! Many probably know by now, I am obsessed with FT; I watch it online, on the weekend… whenever I can catch it, I’m watching and I can’t help but notice how the timeline of fashion appears to be going backwards. Designers are bringing back the most evolutionary of fashion eras… I CAN HARDLY CONTAIN MY EXCITEMENT!Speaking from my own adult fashion timeline, I can safely go back to the year 2000, I remember getting ready to go to which-ever big party was going on that night and coming upstairs to step into my shoes and walk out the door. This was never done without my Mum analyzing my ensemble and approaching me with the same reoccurring comments, aside from her asking me where the rest of my outfit is (in typical Mum fashion), she always felt the need to tell me how similar my outfit was to those she used to wear when she was”younger”. May it have been a high waisted skirt or eighties balloon pants, always paired with pointy leather heels, it relentlessly managed to bring her back.Well, looking at fashion now; where it’s been and where its quickly headed makes me think back to a place I’ve never been. The style at the beginning of my adult life was reminiscent of the 80’s and 90’s, now adays… style has evolved for us in a backward motion. The Victorian Era has seemingly been creeping up on us for some time now; lace up boots, harem trousers, corsets, long train dresses, buckles… silk, lace, linen… and we’ve embraced it from the jump. Looking at the runways for major fashion houses’ fall/winter 2010, we are seeing undeniable references; Dior, Betsey Johnson, Zac Posen, Chanel, Christian Siriano and my fav this coming year, Alexander McQueen.
Betsey Johnson
Peep some previews of what I mean, leave a comment… I am in-love with what’s to come, all I can think is “Everyday could be a new costume!!!”. Fashion is elemental as it is an expression of creativity, art, history, passion, and worldliness, while still being a extremely delicate craft… Excited? Intimidated? How do u feel? xo
