A Gentleman’s Guide to the Holidays: For a Relaxing Time, Make it @Tuthilltown Time

A Gentleman’s Guide to the Holidays is here.  This special feature showcases my top holiday gift ideas of the year.  Take it from me– I’m a dude, and I keep it classy like Ron Burgundy.  It’s my mission to help guide you through the madness of the holiday season with a collection of simple, manly, and sophisticated products for the gentlemen in your life.

Well folks, we’re getting down to the wire with holiday shopping.  This is your last chance to get the refined man in your life something he’ll really enjoy.  For this final edition of A Gentleman’s Guide to the Holidays, I’ve invited some of my favorite gentlemen to join me to converse, listen to music, and sip fine whiskeys from Tuthilltown Spirits Distillery.

On the menu are three of Tuthilltown’s Hudson Whiskeys- Baby Bourbon, Four Grain, and New York Corn.

With me to enjoy these bottles are Dan, Ben, Brian, and Ian- all seasoned whiskey drinkers and good pals.  Needless to say, it wasn’t very difficult to get them over to my place to taste these Hudsons.  We all chose our favorites for the night, but one thing we were all able to agree upon was that Tuthilltown’s Hudson whiskeys were top notch.  “Sweet”, “tingly”, “robust”, and “not boozy” were all exclaimed over the course of the evening.

Ben pours himself a glass of the Hudson 4 Grain Bourbon- his favorite of the night.

Giddy with excitement, Dan can hardly contain himself. This man is in love. In love with whiskey.

Ian made a batch of homemade sour mix to combine with the Hudson New York Corn whiskey.

The Hudson Baby Bourbon won over Brian- easily his favorite of the three.

I give a big gentleman’s stamp of approval to the Hudson 4 Grain Bourbon. Delicious.

The first bourbon whiskey to be distilled in New York, Hudson Baby Bourbon is a single-grain bourbon made from 100% New York corn and aged in special small American Oak barrels.  It’s mildly sweet, smooth, and warm, with hints of vanilla and caramel.

Corn, rye, wheat and malted barley come together in the Hudson Four Grain bourbon. The grains balance each other’s full flavors- combining the soft richness of corn, the sharp peppery notes of rye, all the smooth subtlety of wheat and the sweetness of malted barley.

Lastly, Hudson New York Corn Whiskey is an unaged sipping whiskey, made from 100% New York corn.  I’ve always known this style of whiskey as moonshine- an American classic.  Fun fact: It is also the foundation for the Hudson Baby Bourbon.

The great thing about giving Hudson whiskey as a gift this holiday season- there’s no need to go to the mall to get it.  Just stop by the nearest fine liquor store and ask for Tuthilltown Spirits.  Each bottle is hand waxed and numbered, which makes this the perfect gift.  More information at tuthilltown.com.

A Gentleman’s Guide to the Holidays: Looking good with @Moscot

A Gentleman’s Guide to the Holidays is here.  This special feature showcases my top holiday gift ideas of the year.  Take it from me– I’m a dude, and I keep it classy like Ron Burgundy.  It’s my mission to help guide you through the madness of the holiday season with a collection of simple, manly, and sophisticated products for the gentlemen in your life.

In this edition, I’m happy to present a longtime, family owned company that makes classic eyewear in the great city of New York.  Since 1915, Moscot eyewear has been doing it right with a fascinating history- beginning with an Eastern European immigrant selling eyeglasses from a pushcart in the Lower East Side, before blossoming into an iconic NYC institution.

Sometimes worn for sun protection, often worn because it’d be impossible to see anything without them.  Whatever the reason, Moscot has always designed timeless frames for all occasions.

I’d like to introduce fellow gentleman and all around top-notch nice guy, Lance Lee, to show off two of my favorite frames from the Moscot Originals collection: YUKEL and LEMTOSH.

    YUKEL by Moscot.

    Fun fact: Lance loves books.

“This way to the dunes, dude!”

This collection is based on styles from the Moscot archives from 1930-1970 and retain the authenticity of the original frame styles from the lenses, down to the traditional hardware.  Their throwback style pays homage to the old school eyewear first fabricated by the company in the 1940s.

Moscot Eyewear have three flagship shops in New York City and one in Seoul, South Korea.  Their frames are also available at various retailers across the world.  If you prefer the internet, moscot.com has got you covered.

A special thanks to Lance Lee for modeling these frames!  Stay classy.

    Goodbye Douchbag, Hello Gentlemen

Pick up the newest H&M magazine (free at all H&M stores) and you will find out that Comme des Garcon x H&M Collection hits stores this November. Very exciting stuff! I loved the article written about the five phenomena this autumn 2008. I will share with you my favourite:

    Mr Right
Under a perfect white shirt beats the heart of a knight.
The Gentlemen is back. You will see him striding down the runway…their look is styled down to the smallest detail. Gentlemen’s club like the 21 Club in Manhattan are on the upswing and packed full of young people. Being a gentlemen is about being the best man you can be, involves a lot more than just a smart wardrobe, its more an attitude than a look. Rediscovering old school values like prode, intelligence and dignity. It means being satisfied with no less than the perfect jeans, the best tailored white shirt or the sweetest sneakers rather than collecting labels. In short, being a gentleman means shaking off cynicism, being yourself and loving every minute of it.
