6 Tips To Look Great This Winter Without Splashing The Cash
We want to turn heads when we walk down the street, but we may not always have the cash. Unfortunately, looking our best is expensive. The best outfits, the best accessories, even the best makeup and lotions do not come cheap, which is a problem. Looking our best should not boil down to our budget, and thankfully it doesn’t have to anymore. As it turns out, we can look amazing without having to spend a fortune in the process. All you need to know are the hacks that can make it happen, and luckily they are listed below.
I hope you enjoy!
#1: Create A Budget We sometimes let our hearts rule our heads when we shop. Even though we know we cannot afford an item, we can persuade ourselves otherwise. At the end of the month, the credit card bill arrives and it is plainly obvious we were kidding ourselves! The problem is that we don’t have any hard data to prove that we cannot afford an item. We have a gut feeling, but that is not very scientific. With a budget in our hands, we can physically see that we don’t have the cash, or how much cash we have to spend. Budgets are a great way to keep finances up to date and stop those spontaneous shopping sprees.
#2: Shop Online, But Not Very Often The internet is a great place to find a bargain. The only thing with the Internet is that it is too good. Bargains and sales are everywhere due to the competition, so there is more chance that we will buckle. Although each item may be cheaper than their high street counterpart, together they are a lot more expensive. What makes it even worse is that we don’t shop with cash – we shop with plastic. When we don’t physically hand over the money, it makes buying an item a lot easier. As a result, we can go overboard and spend too much. If you do insist on shopping online, visit sites like Discountrue to find the best deals and bargains on the web.
#3: Go Out And Shop There are two main reasons why we should go out and shop on the high street. The first is that there are lots of bargains in-store, all we have to do is find them. The second is that we can pay with cash. When we pay with cash, we are a lot less flexible with our spending patterns. In fact, most of us hate to hand over cash because it psychologically scars us for life! And, if we needed any more persuading, shopping on the high street is a lot more physically demanding than shopping online. We spend more time surfing the web because we can do it remotely, which means there is more chance of us spending more money.
#4: Take A Friend With You If you are heading out to the high street, take extra precautions. Although having a budget and paying with cash are good strategies, they don’t always work. What we need, most of the time, is to hear the voice of reason. As we start to lose our heads, we need someone who we trust to bring us back down to Earth. A friend is someone that will always tell us the truth no matter what the situation. So, if we are starting to lose our cool, a friend can give us a slap in the face and pull us together again.
#5: Shop Vintage If you are not already aware, retro is coming back into fashion. Whereas we would once have been lambasted for wearing retro makes, nowadays we can wear them and look fashionable. Fashion isn’t exactly easy to understand, is it? But, it doesn’t have to be simple as long as we can take advantage of the trends. By shopping at vintage stores and also shopping for classic makes, we can save a fortune, plus we will still look the part. In fact, we will look even better than normal because everyone will think we are fashionistas for being up to date with the latest trends!
#6: Do A Review One question that we need to ask is, do we need to go shopping? For the most part, we love to shop, but that doesn’t mean that we need to shop. When we buy items for the sake of it, we are wasting money. All it takes is a thorough review of our closet to see whether we need to shop.
Looking our best doesn’t always have to an expensive venture.

A Gentleman’s Guide to the Holidays: For a Relaxing Time, Make it @Tuthilltown Time
A Gentleman’s Guide to the Holidays is here. This special feature showcases my top holiday gift ideas of the year. Take it from me– I’m a dude, and I keep it classy like Ron Burgundy. It’s my mission to help guide you through the madness of the holiday season with a collection of simple, manly, and sophisticated products for the gentlemen in your life.
Well folks, we’re getting down to the wire with holiday shopping. This is your last chance to get the refined man in your life something he’ll really enjoy. For this final edition of A Gentleman’s Guide to the Holidays, I’ve invited some of my favorite gentlemen to join me to converse, listen to music, and sip fine whiskeys from Tuthilltown Spirits Distillery.
On the menu are three of Tuthilltown’s Hudson Whiskeys- Baby Bourbon, Four Grain, and New York Corn.
With me to enjoy these bottles are Dan, Ben, Brian, and Ian- all seasoned whiskey drinkers and good pals. Needless to say, it wasn’t very difficult to get them over to my place to taste these Hudsons. We all chose our favorites for the night, but one thing we were all able to agree upon was that Tuthilltown’s Hudson whiskeys were top notch. “Sweet”, “tingly”, “robust”, and “not boozy” were all exclaimed over the course of the evening.

Ben pours himself a glass of the Hudson 4 Grain Bourbon- his favorite of the night.
Giddy with excitement, Dan can hardly contain himself. This man is in love. In love with whiskey.
Ian made a batch of homemade sour mix to combine with the Hudson New York Corn whiskey.
The Hudson Baby Bourbon won over Brian- easily his favorite of the three.
I give a big gentleman’s stamp of approval to the Hudson 4 Grain Bourbon. Delicious. The first bourbon whiskey to be distilled in New York, Hudson Baby Bourbon is a single-grain bourbon made from 100% New York corn and aged in special small American Oak barrels. It’s mildly sweet, smooth, and warm, with hints of vanilla and caramel.
Corn, rye, wheat and malted barley come together in the Hudson Four Grain bourbon. The grains balance each other’s full flavors- combining the soft richness of corn, the sharp peppery notes of rye, all the smooth subtlety of wheat and the sweetness of malted barley.
Lastly, Hudson New York Corn Whiskey is an unaged sipping whiskey, made from 100% New York corn. I’ve always known this style of whiskey as moonshine- an American classic. Fun fact: It is also the foundation for the Hudson Baby Bourbon.
The great thing about giving Hudson whiskey as a gift this holiday season- there’s no need to go to the mall to get it. Just stop by the nearest fine liquor store and ask for Tuthilltown Spirits. Each bottle is hand waxed and numbered, which makes this the perfect gift. More information at tuthilltown.com.

The last few Halloweens have not been so fun for me 🙁 But there will be lots of discounted candy on sale everywhere tomorrow!

@Editor-Showcase Cooking & Entertaining Event
Last week I went to an Editor Showcase Cooking & Entertaining event at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. There, 29 brands gathered to provide editors with information and samples of their products. We also got great ideas for entertaining, which is perfect for the soon approaching holidays.
I discovered a few new products, learned new uses for familiar products, and got to try a couple products I’ve always passed by on the grocery shelves, but have never bought. I came home with two giant bags of samples, which I will be reviewing over the next few months and telling you all about!
In the meanwhile, I wanted to give you a glimpse of what’s to come!
We all know Sweet’N Low. Did you know this zero calorie sweetener can be used to make “skinny” mixed cocktails?
Ninja puts a new spin on the crock pot, with a multi-use cooking appliance that can even be used to bake!
Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse, which will be coming soon to uptown NYC, offers a line of scrumptious spring rolls, but we’re not talking your typical Chinese restaurant find. Flavors like macaroni & cheese, Reuben, and buffalo chicken are super tasty.
Hamilton Beach has really stepped it up with their funky line of animal print crock pots. And blending is taken to the next level with their professional-grade blender pictured on the left (which retails for about $800).
Satori Cheese offers amazing, delicious cheeses, including my favorite: Cognac BellaVitano, which is “steeped in Rémy Martin Cognac for 7 to 10 intoxicating days.”
Lékué, pronounced Lee-Kway, the Spanish manufacturer of creative, colorful, kitchen products, has introduced a collection of more than 40 products designed for healthy, low-fat cooking, baking, and food storage.
With vines dating back more than 2,000 years, the Rhône Valley is the second largest Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée in France with more than 6,000 grape growers, covering 188,700 acres and delivering more than 404 million bottles of wine per year. Love the rose they had!
I love olives and olive oil is the only oil I cook with, so I was very happy to see International Olive Council’s Add Some Life campaign, which strives to inspire consumers about the taste, versatility, nutritional benefits and importance of making olives and olive oil staples in their daily lives.
Hurricane or another natural disaster approaching? Camping trip ahead? Just want to be prepared for the Apocalypse? eFoodsDirect is a gourmet storable food company whose mission is to help all American families have healthy, easy-to-fix, affordable, delicious storable food insurance. These space-food-sealed meals have a shelf live of 25 years, tastes great, and are all natural.
If you don’t know about stock, you don’t know about a great cooking secret. Use it instead of water when cooking veggies for extra flavor and add it to rice when boiling. Knorr now has a reduced sodium version so you can cut down on the salt.
Coffee drinkers: Did you know Green Mountain Coffee has more than 100 high-quality, 100% Arabica varieties and the largest selection of Fair Trade Certified coffees in the country? Now you do.
What’s better than comfort food? How about low-calorie comfort food you can have straight from your microwave in a few minutes, thanks to Healthy Choice’s new Baked Entrées line.
We’ve all seen those commercials where CRL cleans just about everything in its path. These products are good for any host/hostess who is serious about solving tough cleaning problems.
For vegans, or anyone who wants to skip the dairy, Earth Balance produces a line of delicious buttery spreads, shortenings, nut butters, soymilk, soy nog, coconut spread and alternative mayo. I tried the Creamy Coconut nut butter and washed it down with the Organic Soy Milk. Yum!
Make-at-home fondue? Need I say more? Emmi Roth also makes and variety of specialty other artisan cheeses and premium fresh dairy products.
Chavrie is an all-natural, fresh goat cheese based on a classic French recipe and created from the milk of local Amish farmers in the farmlands of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
A dinner party wouldn’t be complete without a nice cup of coffee (to soak up the wine!). Eight O’Clock Coffee brings over 150 years of expertise to their full line of gourmet coffee varieties
Mmm, avacado! Avocados from Mexico are creamy and delicious and always in season for cooking and entertaining.
Charmane Skillen began selling gourmet sea and mineral salts at area farmers markets. S.A.L.T. not only described her product, it was a symbol of her motivation–her four beautiful daughters, Sydney, Alexis, Lauren and Taylor.
You know Sugar in the Raw–the brown sugar packets a Starbucks? Well, did you know In the Raw also makes, zero-calorie Stevia In The Raw, organic Agave In The Raw, and Monk Fruit In The Raw, a zero-calorie sweetener made from fruit?
Athens Foods is the world’s largest producer of fillo dough and fillo products, including convenient, fully baked Mini Fillo Shells that you can use to make tasty bites like this.
