    Movie Review: Crazy, Stupid, Love

Yesterday I went to an advance screening of “Crazy, Stupid, Love” (in theaters July 29).  I could just say, go see this movie so you can drool over Ryan Gosling, but that wouldn’t be a very good review, nor would it accurately capture just why this is a film that’s definitely worth your 13 bucks!

The movie opens with Emily (Julianne Moore) admitting to her straight-laced—and very oblivious—husband Cal (Steve Carell) that she’s cheated on him and wants a divorce.  This sudden split from his high school sweetheart instantly turns Cal’s life upside down.  He starts hanging out at the local bar, where he spends time lamenting to whoever will listen about his depressing situation.  Here he meets the amazingly suave playboy, Jacob (Ryan Gosling), who decides to give this poor soul help rediscovering his manhood and getting back in the dating scene.

In the meanwhile, Robbie (Jonah Bobo), Cal’s 13-year-old son, is experiencing his first major crush on his babysitter, Jessica (Analeigh Tipton).  Jessica is in love with Cal.  And Jacob eventually finds love, too.

    In theaters Friday, July 29

“Crazy, Stupid, Love” is an entertaining, feel-good, romantic comedy.  It’s a love triangle (or…pentagon?) with unexpected twists and intersections between the characters’ lives.  The three main subplots coincide smoothly throughout the movie and once they merge (or should I say, collide), you are in for some serious laughs. The movie’s pace is comfortable, allowing you to connect with each of the characters and remain entertained throughout. Some of the characters do pretty outlandish—well…crazy, stupid—things that make you squirm, but that’s part of what makes the movie so fun.

The cool thing about this movie is that viewers of all ages, from preteens to grandparents, can relate to and enjoy it. Whether you’re stumbling on your first, serious puppy dog crush or you’ve discovered your soulmate, this movie will speak to you. It makes you believe in love, fight for love, and respect love. It shows the dangers of falling into a rut—and the importance of keeping love fresh.

The actors were well-cast and had good chemistry and the dialogue was natural.  Who was the standout?  I can’t even say.  Each actor in this star-studded cast did a great job.  The film also stars Emma Stone, Marisa Tomei, Beth Littleford, John Carroll Lynch and Kevin Bacon.

    I give it 3.75 of 5 stars

    Friends with Benefits

Last night I went to see this new Justin Timberlake romantic comedy and it was pretty much what I expected. It is always fun to watch New York movies while living in NY because you recognize neighborhoods and landmarks 🙂  The double bonus in this flick is that it was also shot in LA… and I also recognized those hot spots too.  Mila Kunis plays that ‘cool’ girl who is heartless and Clooney like. Only to be fragile and fairy tale romancing like so many big city girls.  This movie made me appreciate my boyfriend a lot a lot a lot. Thank God we are both beyond that ego bull#* and ready for intense loving. But I digress.

The jist of the story is pretty much given away in the preview and with cool scenes of JT’s body, a crazy beautiful ‘NY condo’ and flash mob dancing… it really was just a lite-hearted little movie.

I give it 3 stars 🙂  It comes out this Friday.

Let me know what you think!

    Fast Five

Nothing gets my blood pumping the way hot cars, sexy girls and buff guys with too must testosterone do… Went to see Fast Five this weekend and it did not disappoint. Filmed in Brazil, the aerial shots were visually stunning and the cars were to die for.

Makes you wonder why your everyday life never involves a vault of money, highway chase and superman punching people through walls.

    HANNA

Hanna is an incredible movie.  Everything from the cinematography to the soundtrack to the story, costume and casting. EEEkkk!  I loved every minute of it and how the ending really loops back to the opening scores.  If you loved Run Lola Run, the Saw franchise then HANNA is a home run for sure.

She is such a bad bitch. Her father in the movie is exactly the kind of man I need. Footnote that swimming part. You will know what I mean when you see it. YUM.  I think the main things that make a person ‘weak’ and not the ‘perfect soldier’ is essentially what make us human and makes us real. Hanna has been genetically doctored in the womb to feel less fear, less apprehension and is stronger than most. That’s what makes her dope.

Her hair looks amazing in this movie and don’t forget about the Prada shoes Marissa Wiegler wears… Does it mean she’s the devil?

So many parts if this story is told on so many levels it’s multi level. The fact that Hanna was able to remain emotionless and was never exposed to music. The way she has innate trust for the dogs she plays with and the little boy – yet she is trained to resist against that and really just ‘adapt or die’. Lotsa good food for thought.

I haven’t seen a lot of great movies lately but this one is 5 stars in my books. I got to see the press screening today and everyone laughed, held their breath and loved it. Highly recommend that you go see it this weekend!

    Never Say Never

As the gusty wind swept all ideas of spring away from the minds of New Yorkers on Saturday, I went to see Justin Bieber’s movie Never Say Never.  Even though I knew his story, saw most of the footage on YouTube, I still wanted to see this documentary and be filled with happiness and inspiration.  It is so astounding how music moves people, how fan-demonium is so incredible and the way a passionate person can move others to hysteria and tears.

This is a true testament to… And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose .
